[13731] "Shamokin News-Dispatch [Shamokin, PA], 31 August 1945," p. 2: "Mrs. Cora B. Simmons, 71, wife of Dr. Richard H. Simmons, Spruce and Sixth Street, died suddenly, but not wholly unexpectedly, at 7:00 last evening, following an acute heart seizure, after an illness of five weeks. The death of Mrs. Simmons, which severed a marital relation of 50 vears, came within a few hours after Dr. C. E. Ervin, Harrisburg specialist, formerly of Geisinger Memorial Hospital, Danville, visited the Simmons residence in consultation with the family physician. Although in somewhat Impaired health during the past several years, Mrs. Simmons was able to be about the home until the acute attack five weeks ago. Her husband, Dr. Simmons, who retired some years ago from active practice, has been bedfast in the home the past three years, following a stroke. Mrs. Simmons, the former Miss Cora B. Seiler, was born in Shamokin, August 2. 1874, daughter ot the late Emanuel G. and Caroline (Bower) Seiler. Her father was pioneer Shamokin business man and president of the Guarantee Trust & Safe Deposit Bank, of which he was one of the founders, president for many years of Shamokin Lumber & Construction Company and identified with other business enterprises. Following graduation from Shamokin High School In 1892, the then Miss Seiler enrolled at Palatinate College, later Albright College, at Myerstown, where she majored in voice culture and music. Possessor of a rich soprano voice, Mrs. Simmons became one of Shamokin's best known vocalists. She was a member of the choir of St. John Reformed Church for 40 years and a choir soloist for a long period. Mrs. Simmons was one of the founders of the Cecilian Club, and a member of the Philharmonic Society and several other musical organizations. She cooperated in the founding of the Young Women's Christian Association, which she served many years as a member of the board of directors. When Northumberland County Board of Mother's Assistance was founded a number of years ago, Mrs. Simmons became a member of that body and continued to serve throughout the duration of the board's activities. In that capacity, she be came interested in much unostentatious charity, not only in Shamokin and its environs, but elsewhere. As Miss Cora Seiler, the deceased was married to Dr. Simmons June 12, 1895 by the late Rev. C. B. Schneder, D. D. pastor of St. John Reformed Church, and the couple observed their golden wedding anniversary a little more than two months ago with a quiet reunion of immediate relatives. Since the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Seiler, the Simmons family occupied the original Seiler homestead. Surviving Mrs. Simmons are her husband and one daughter, Miss Vera Simmons, at home. A sister-in-law, Mrs. Zella Fisher, sister of Dr. Simmons, is a member of the household. The funeral will be held Monday afternoon with private services In the home, beginning at 2:00. Friends may view Sunday evening. Rev. Ed ward O. Butkofsky, of St. John Re formed Church, in which Mrs. Simmons was active throughout her lifetime, will officiate at the memorial tribute. Burial will be in Shamokin Cemetery."

Orphaned by 1859, a year later Henry was living with his brother Andrew in Jackson Township ans working as a mason. He stood 5' 6" tall and had black hair and gray eyes. A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Perry County August 5, 1862, reportedly at the age of twenty-two, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 11 as a private with Co. G, 133rd Pennsylvania Infantry. He was wounded in the left leg at the battle of Fredericksburg December 13, 1862, but remained on the active roll and honorably discharged with his company May 26, 1863. He also enlisted - probably in Harrisburg; date not reported but in sometime in early September or late August 1864 -, mustered into federal service at the rank of private, promoted to 1st lieutenant September 9, and honorably discharged with his company June 1, 1865, at Alexandria, Virginia. After the war, he married Mary Elizabeth "Molly" Adams and fathered Saloma C. (b. 1867, d. 1868), John Bistline (b. 1868), Annie Maude (b. 1870), Florence Nevada (b. @1873), Henry "Harry," Louella M. (b. 1874 - married Dr. John A. Bender), Lula (b. @1876), Benjamin Franklin "Frank" (b. 1877), Emma (b. 1879 - married a Mickleborough), and Mary Justina (b. 1881 - married a Trostle). He did not mention service with the 208th Pennsylvania in the 1890 Veterans' Schedule."
