"The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 25 March 2002, p. 9: "Monticello - Two people were killed and two others were injured early Sunday afternoon in a two-car accident on U.S. Route 1 near Jewell Lake, just north of Jewells Corner. Frederick Cronkhite, 67, of Bridgewater and his wife, Pauline Cronkhite, 65, were killed after their northbound 1989 Honda Civic went out of control shortly after noon when it hit snow and ice that had blown across the road, according to Trooper Mark Sperry of the Maine State Police. The car crossed the centerline sideways and was hit in a T-bone fashion by a southbound 1995 Honda Accord driven by Dudley Gann, 56, of Cape Elizabeth. The Cronkhites were pronounced dead at the scene. Gann and Ellen Moscinski, 54, a passenger in Ganns car, were transported by Crown ambulances to Houlton Regional Hospital. Gann and Moscinski both were in stable condition late Sunday afternoon, a hospital spokeperson said. Sperry said all four people were wearing seat belts. He said the accident happened so fast that there was no time for either driver to take evasive action. Both vehicles were demolished. Route 1 was closed for about an hour."
"The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 27 March 2002, p. 23: "Bridgewater - Frederick D. Cronkhite the husband of Pauline L. Cronkhite, died unexpectedly March 24, 2002, at the age of 67. He was born Dec. 9, 1934, in Blaine, the son of Frederick D. Cronkhite Sr. and Kate L. (Hub-bell) Cronkhite. Fred graduated from local schools, as well as N.M.V.T.I. He also served his country in the U.S. Army. After his discharge, he married his wife, Pauline on April 5, 1957. Fred worked for many years at SAD No. 42 and in his spare time, enjoyed camping and fishing with Pauline. He is survived by three sons, Gregory of Londonderry, N.H., Geoffrey of Bridgewater, Frederick and his wife, Lisa of Meriden, one daughter, Lorri Hartley of West Potsdam, N.Y.; a brother, Dalton of Mars Hill; three grandchildren, Jessica, Alison, Joshua; a great-granddaughter, Zara Storm Hartley; also several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by two sisters."
Frederick served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He is son of Fredrick Dawson Cronkhite (1892-1975) & Katherine Livinia Hubble (1891-1969).
