[52629] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 12 December 2022: "Danforth - Maurice S. 'Papa' Cowan, 78, Beloved husband, father, and Papa, passed away December 8, 2022, with his family by his side. He was born March 4, 1944, in Danforth, the son of Earl and Leola (Kinney) Cowan. Maurice served in the U.S. Navy from 1961 to 1965. Following his time in the service, Maurice worked as a Pipe Fitter for Great Northern, and went on to work at Georgia Pacific for 32 years until his retirement. Maurice stayed busy during retirement and enjoyed his carpentry work as well as his time working at the Weston Transfer Station. He was a member of American Legion Post 45, in Danforth, and a proud member of the Danforth Methodist Church. Maurice married Linda Knights in 1967, sharing 55 wonderful years together. He and Linda loved to dance, and when they danced together people couldn't help but stop and take notice. He will be remembered for his love of family, especially his three grandchildren, as well as his kind heart, his hugs, and his sense of humor, which never wavered even in the end. Maurice was known by many and loved by all. He is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Brad Cowan and Heidi Dobbins; daughter, Wendy Westerdahl and husband, Barrett; Katie Cropley Castro and Rafael; grandchildren, Kami Westerdahl and Tyler Fitzpatrick, Kadyn Cowan, and James Westerdahl; sisters, Winnie Windsor, and Sheila Keith; aunt, Ronnie Kinney; and an extended family of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Maynard Cowan."
