[55222] 'The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 22 November 20223: "Ellsworth - Gertrude Eliza Herrick Linscott, 96, passed away Nov. 21, 2023, at Narraguagus Bay Health Care in Milbridge, after a long battle with rheumatoid arthritis. She was born July 27, 1927, in Lamoine, daughter of Wesley R. and Gertrude (Maddocks) Herrick. Her mother died the next day from complications of childbirth, so she was raised by a loving stepmother, Sara Jane Astbury Herrick. She grew up on the Bayside Road and was in the Ellsworth High School Class of 1946. Gertrude married Reginald Linscott, a WW2 Veteran from Bar Harbor, in October 1948 and they made their home on the Christian Ridge Road in Ellsworth. Except for a few years of assisted living in Bangor, she spent her life in Ellsworth. In her post high school years, she worked as a teller at the Liberty National Bank on Main Street until the birth of her first child in 1950. Later she worked for several years at Newberrys. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed making clothes for family and friends. She also loved doing crafts, playing cards and board games, and jigsaw puzzles. She was a wonderful cook and is remembered for her baked beans, steamed brown bread, yeast rolls, spaghetti sauce, and pies, cakes, cookies, and fudge. Gertrude became a born-again Christian in her teens while attending Sunday School at the Bayside grange hall. She was baptized at United Baptist Church and through her lifetime attended Baptist churches in Ellsworth, Bangor, and Hermon. In the 1960s she enjoyed being a camp counselor at Baptist Youth Camp in Charlotte. Gertrude is survived by her son Wesley and his wife Anita of Bangor, her daughter Jane and husband Glen McMahon of Ellsworth, and by her six grandchildren; Greg Linscott of Rochester, Minn., Larry 'Punkie' King of Ellsworth, Rob King of Ellsworth, Tim Linscott of Grand Rapids, Mich., Becky Rowe of Bangor, and Travis King of Ellsworth; along with 16 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Reg in 1996, and by her brothers Leamon, Frank, and Elmer 'Bud' Herrick, and her sisters Evelyn Moore, Helen Cushing, Doris Hamilton, and Catherine Griffin. She was the last one of her generations. Visiting hours will be Monday, Nov. 27 from 4-6 p.m. at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m., conducted by her grandson Rev. Greg Linscott, senior pastor of Calvary Baptist Church in Rochester, Minn. Immediately thereafter she will be laid to rest next to her husband at Bayview Cemetery in Franklin. "
