[48274] Find A Grave memorial 51996500 offers: "Samuel and Mary Ella, after being married by Rev. L.S. Tripp on New Years Day 1870, lived for nineteen years at Billing's Pond. At first in a very old Cape Cod house, later in a cottage type of house with an ell. This house was built by Samuel and his father as they were carpenters and cabinet makers. Samuel went to sea as a young man and was in the Navy during most of the Civil War. One of the ships he was on was the monitor 'Monadnock'. After living in Blue Hill, where their three children were born, they sold that place and went to East Surry living in Mary's father's home until Samuel died on December 9, 1890."
[30156] The 1850 federal census of Perry, Jefferson Co., PA lists Mary J., age 9, in the household of Catherine Hice, age 40, a widow. The unverified Burkhouse Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2013 states Mary Jane is daughter of Robert Hice (b. in 1786 in Indiana Co., PA, d. 1846 in Jefferson Co., PA) and Catherine Gilhousen (b. in Feb 1810, d. 14 March 1896 in Jefferson Co., PA).
