[7423] "The Sentinel [Carlisle, Pennsylvania], 20 February 1976," p. 6: "George M. Briner, 93, 126 Parker St., Carlisle, died Thursday morning in Carlisle Hospital. Mr. Briner was born Jan. 11, 1883 in New Bloomfield and was married to the late Mrs. Rachel Weidman Briner who died Sept. 11, 1957. He was a sales representative for Scott Foresman and Co., N.Y., retiring in 1949. He had been a teacher in Carlisle High School for ten years, and was principal for seven years. He was a member of Cumberland Star Lodge No. 197 F&AM, the Odd Fellows Lodge, and Kappa Sigma Fraternity, having received a 50-year membership award from all of those organizations. He was also a mmber of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the Sons of Veterans, and was a graduate of Shippensburg State Normal School in 1901 and Dickinson College in 1907. He is survived by a son, George L. Briner, 126 Parker St., Carlisle; a brother, J. Frank Briner, Sr., Lexington, Mass.; a granddaughter, Mrs. Doughas (Elizabeth) Rankin, Zweibrucker, Germany; a great-grandson, Todd D. Rankin."
