[76] Mary or Elizabeth? Note: Most serious researchers do NOT believe that Col. Ninian Beall is her father! "Across the Years in Prince George's County," E.G.Bowie (Richmond, VA, 1947), p. 537 states that John Pottinger married Elizabeth ______, presumed one of three children of Elizabeth who was a widow and who brought the three children with her to her marriage (his 3rd?) to Alexander Magruder, who named her in his will 12 March 1676/7. The surname Beale and her place of birth in Prince George's County are from "Ancestral Records and Portraits" by Grafton. Mary had a sister, Sarah, who married Samuel Magruder (1661-1711). Samuel's will mentions John Pottinger as "his brother". He and Sarah named two of their children Mary and John, and their in-laws, John and Mary, named two of theirs Sarah and Samuel! That Mary Beall married John Pottinger is from "Maryland's Heraldic Families," Vol. I, p. 63, and Vol. II, p. 88; also Fielder Beall's book, p. 105 (thought to be unreliable); see "Founders and Patriots of America - Index," listing John Pottenger (1642-1735) m. Mary Beal, Maryland (XXV:254). See a footnote about a Mary Beall in "The Brooke Family of Whitechurch, Hampshire, England," Thomas William Balch (Philadelphia, 1899).
