[12955] http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pmcbride/james/f023.htm#I1226X1 reports in 2003: "Robert (surnamed FitzParnel from his mother), 4th Earl of Leicester, succeeded his father in Messina in 1191, being invested by King Richard with the cincture of a sword. After which, while his master was detained in captivity by the emperor, the King of France having invaded Normandy, and taken divers places, this earl coming to Roan, excited the inhabitants to so vigorous a defense, that the French monarch was obliged to retreat. Furthermore, it is related of him, that making a pilgrimage into the Holy Land, he there unhorsed and slew the Soldan in a tournament, when returning into England, he died in 1204, and was buried at the abbey of Leicester. He had married Laureeta, daughter of William de Braose, Lord Braose, of Brember, but having no issue, the Earldom of Leicester became extinct, while his great inheritance devolved upon his two sisters as co-heirs."
[17714] [Identity/surname uncertain.] LDS Church's unverified Ancestral File (VH3T-97) reports her as mother of James.

He married Barbara Hershey in 1746 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. They had 10 children in 22 years. He died in 1772 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at the age of 72. . . Barbara Hershey was born in 1704 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. . . She died in 1785 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, having lived a long life of 81 years."

"Arriving early in the wild forests of Maine, the Jordans suffered through bad weather, famine, and Indian attacks, as did the other settlers. The Indians did not like the Jordans, however, from the start (See Robert Jordan in this tree for details), and they liked his family no better.
"Dominicus Jordan took over the Cape Elizabeth properties after his father died. Then known as Spurwick, the 1,000 acres was remote, and at times the plantation was left idle due to the dangers. Jordan and his family took up permanent residence in 1698: for some of them, it was to be all too permanent. According to the Genealogical and Personal Memoirs Relating to the Families of Boston and Eastern Massachusetts, published in 1908 by William Richard Cutter,
"'Family tradition says that Dominicus Jordan was a man of large stature and of great strength and endurance; the gun used by him was more than six feet long, and it was the custom of the owner to keep the gun and ammunition close at hand all the time. The Indians feared him; in war he was their deadly enemy, but [he] lived in friendly terms with them in time of peace(667).'
"The gun was to be of little use.
"At the outbreak of the French-English wars in 1703, which are called the French-Indian Wars in the United States, the Indians' actions did not seem to be 'friendly'. Cutter continues.
"'...a party of Indians, appearing friendly, called on Mr. Jordan on August 10, to buy some goods. He did not suspect their treacherous design and was waiting on them, when one, who had watched the opportunity unnoticed, struck a hatchet into Mr. Jordan's head. Death soon followed. His wife and family of six children, and his youngest brother, Jeremiah, were made prisoners and led through the wilderness to Canada (ibid).'
"Dominicus' family were not the only casualties that day. According to Cutter, 22 people with the last name of Jordan were either killed or captured. Members of the family were to remain in captivity for 7 years: 6 with the Indians and 1 with the French. Samuel Jordan, one of Dominicus' sons, managed to escape with the help of an Indian woman. Although all were eventually ransomed, Dominicus' daughter Mary Anne refused to return home and opted to stay with the French. Her name was changed to Arabella, and is mentioned in Stoddard's Journal, dated 1713, as "Arabella Jordan, at Trois Rivers." In spite of her defection to the enemy, she was given her share of her father's estate in 1761. She married Solomon Meserve, evidently a Frenchman." - "Genealogical and Personal Memoirs Relating to the Families of Boston and Eastern Massachusetts," William Richard Cutter, 1908. [

An unverified Family Tree in Ancestry.com in 2015 offers: "Dominicus Jordan was born on December 18, 1655, in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, the child of Rev. Robert and Sarah. He married Hannah Tristram. They had one child during their marriage. He died on August 10, 1703, in his hometown, at the age of 47. Hannah Tristram was born on December 18, 1655, in Saco, Maine . . . . . She died in 1746 in Newbury, Massachusetts, at the impressive age of 91."
