Born Sept. 10, 1946, in Ellsworth, he is the son of Donald and Eleanor (Salsbury) Coffin. Walter graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1965 and Husson College in 1969 with a degree in Accounting. He married his beloved wife, Jo-Ann (Griffin) Coffin. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1969-1973 and worked at Ray Plumbing for 40 years. Walter enjoyed traveling, whether camping or sailing by cruise ship, dancing, ice fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren."

He married Maud de Clifford in 1271 while living in Brimsfield, Gloucestershire, England. Maud was born about 1234, lived in Clifford Castle, Herefordshire, England. She was the daughter of Walter de Clifford and Margred Verch Llywelyn. She died after Dec 1281 in Brimsfield, Gloucestershire, England . They had a child named Eleanor Giffard."
