Charles died in the 'Line Of Duty' of a non-battle related incident during the war. Service # 6063378." He was buried at sea. There is a memorial tablet also in the Locust Grove Cemetery, Hampden, Penobscot Co., ME.
[58134] Charles is son of Charles Gifford (1799-1874) & Mary Reed (1800-1881; m. 22 October 1821 in MA). Find A Grave memorial 79994284 lists Charles as b. in 1836 and reports "Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer 1 Aug 1872, p. 2: 'The Gardiner Journal states that Mr. Charles Gifford, who lives out on the Marston road, has gone into the turkey business largely. He finds a ready market for them. Last week a fox carried off 38 old ones and 92 young ones. Mr. Gifford wants that old fox and her family---will pay $100 for them, we are told."

[1670] Rognald was apparently the last non-Rurikid (i.e. Viking) prince of Polotzk and he is father of Rogneide of Polotzk. From the Great Soviet Encyclopedia: "Prince Vladimir Sviatoslavich [of Keiv] conquered the principality [of Polotsk] at the end of the 10th century, killing the Polotskian Prince Rogvolod [and marrying Rognald/Rogvolod's daughter, Rogneide]. Vladimir later bequeathed Polotsk to his son Iziaslav."
