[45681] The 1860 federal census in Tuscarora Twp., Perry Co., PA lists Daniel, age 33, b. in PA, a plasterer, with wife Margaret, age 34, b. in PA. Mary C. Crist,, age 1, is daughter in this household. Find A Grave memorial 17389250 offers: "Daniel Crist was the son of the late Daniel and Mary (Bistline) Crist. He was born on the 13th of July, 1827, on the farm now owned by Thomas B. Campbell, on Tuscroara Township. He was stricken with paralysis on Thursday night of last week about midnight and never regained consciousness after the first attack. Just before he died it was thought he had another attack and on Sunday morning at 4:50 a.m. o'clock his spitit took flight. He was aged 83 years, 9 months, 3 days. Mr. Crist was a plasterer, having learned the trade with a man by the name of Fritz, who lived in Bloomfield. He followed his trade for many years, working in different sectionsof the county, and became will known as an expert plasterer. On December 1850 he was married to Miss Margaret A. Leonard, to whom seven children were born, namely; Lydia R., who was married to James Henshy, of Tyrone, Pa. She died about twenty-four years ago, and a son David also died while yet young. The living are; J.N. Cries, Juniata, Blair County, Pa; Mrs. J.A. Rice and C.C. Harmon, of the same place; W.L. Crist of Altoona; and D.M. Crist, of the state of Washington. He had seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. Crist sold his farm here and moved to Altoona about thirty-four years ago, where he lived for a few years and then came to Academia, Juniata county and lived there two years, when he bought the Whitekettle farm in this township where they lived until a few years ago when the cares and infirmities of age began to press heavily upon them in Altoona, when they accrpted the solicitous offer and subquently made their home with thier youngest daughter, Mrs. C.C. Harmon. Mrs. Crist died in August 1905. Mr. Crist was a quiet civil and industrious man. He was always a Democrat and marched under the banner of Democracy from the cradle to the grave. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Juniata whose pastor Rev. Charles W. Wasson, conducted the funeral services at th house on Monday at 7:45 p.m. and Rev. John C. Collins, of Newport, conducted the services here at Markleville, where the deceased was laid to rest along side of his wife. Those who came with the body from Altoona were J. Newell Crist and wife, C.W. Glasgow wife and two children: A.J. Rice and sons, William and Martin and son in-law, Edward Brady; C.C. Harmon, wife and daughter, Margaret; Wm. L. Crist and son-in-law John and J.P. Campbell and wife."
[37122] Providence is from the unverified Debbie MahanTree in Ancestry.com in 2014 which states he is son of Enoch Harraman (b. ca. 1790 in PA). https://www.houseofnames.com offers: "The ancient Anglo-Saxon surname Harriman came from Herman or Hermannus. The names are really the same; it was a common practice for scribes to record a given name in the Latin style, where us is the masculine suffix. The personal name meant warrior having derived from the Old French word hermant, or from the Old German words hariman or hereman, all of which meant 'warrior.' This name came to England in the wake of the Norman Conquest in 1066. However, not all of the family moved to England as Ralph, William, Richard and Hugh Herman were all listed in Normandy in 1180." - and provides further information about early families of this name.
