[47692] Find A Grave 38668355 offers John's obituary: "John Andrew Kohler of Port Royal died suddenly at the Lewistown Hospital early Sunday morning [17 Jan 1932]. He had been a patient in the hospital for two weeks and had undergone an operation from which he was recovering, his condition improving to such an extent that he expected to return home when, a few hours before his scheduled departure, he was stricken with the fatal heart attack. He was the son of the late William A. and Susan Motz Kohler, of Turbett Township, this county [Juniata], and at the time of his death was aged 80 years, 7 months and 24 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Anna M. Jacobs, who preceded him in death last September. He is survived by two sons: William A. Kohler, of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Warren M. Kohler of Port Royal. Four grandchildren and one sister, Mts. Sara Jacobs, of Norfolk, Va., also survive him. He had been a school teacher earlier in life when he became actively engaged in farming. Sixteen years ago he retired from farming and moved to Port Royal and became active in civic, commercial and political affairs. He was a member of the church council since he was 19 years of age. At the time of his death he was president of the First National Bank of Port Royal, a past master of the Pomona Grange of Juniata County, President of the Husbandmans Mutual Fire Insurance Company and President emeritus of the church council. He had been President of the Orbisonia Telephone Company until it was merged with the Cumberland Valley Telephone Company a few years ago. He was associate judge of Juniata County from 1918 to 1924 inclusive, and he held other county official posts from time to time. He was a member of the Port Royal Lutheran Church."

[50881] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 19 February 2013": "Penobscot - Milford F. Marks, 94, died Feb. 15, 2013, at his home. He was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Orland, the son of Adelbert and Maggie (Bowden) Marks. Milford had a great sense of humor, loved to joke and be around people. He owned his own business delivering fruit and produce from 1957 until his retirement in 1983. He enjoyed watching sports, especially the New England teams. He was not one to travel; he preferred to stay locally. Milford was a member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge, Orland and the Castine Grange, Castine. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Maxine N. (Bowden) Marks; one son, Bryant Marks and wife, Debra, of Orland; one daughter, Claudeane Gross and husband, Rodney, also of Orland; two grandsons, Nathaniel Bray Marks and wife, Colette, and Josiah Bray Marks; as well as several special nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Milford was predeceased by his siblings, Marvin Gray, Marshall Marks, Ethel Leach and Wilma Brooks."
Christopher was born ca. 1655-60 and died between Oct 1712 and 9 July 1714. He stated that he was shipwrecked and stayed; he was a fisherman. He settled in that part of Eastham which was set off as Truro in 1709 - since he was from Truro, Cornwall he may have been influential in the selection of this town name. His sons were known as "whale fishermen." Research in Sept 1986 at Truro, England by Katherine Brown suggests that Christopher came from Elgoshayle Parish near Truro and may be the Christopher baptised there 12 Dec 1631, son of Anthony Strowte [sic] (son of James Strowte) who m. Mary Olyver there 23 June 1631 - Christopher had sons baptised there, 1657-66. Christopher's estate was administered 9 July 1714 at Truro, MA. NOTE: Hannah is presumed, but not proven, to be his daughter. Tom Dunn posted on GenForum in July, 2003: "About eight years ago I pulled a file [KSTROUT.ged] off the net. According to this file, Christopher Strout was baptized on 12 Sept. 1631 at Egloshayle, Wadebridge, Cornwall, England. Cristopher was the son of Anthony and Mary Stroud. Anthony is said to be of German descent. Anthony changed his name to Strout at the time of Cristopher's baptism. According to this file, the source for this information was a letter from the Vicarage at Egloshayle. I have not attempted to verify any of the above."
Adella Hayward (heydella60@aol.com) posted on GenForum 18 Nov 2003: "Recent research (at Truto, County Cornwall, England in Sep 1986 by Katharine [Dickson] Brown) suggests that Christopher 1 Strout came from Elgoshayle parish/town, near Truro, County Cornwall. The following extract from Library in Truro, International Genealogical Index microfiche sheet #A0217 may refer to Christopher 1 Strout of Truro, Cape Cod, MA;
James Strowe(sic)
Anthony Strowe (sic) son of James Strowe (sic) christened Egloshayle 22 Aug 1602. Anthony married Mary Olyver in Egloshayle 23 Jun 1631.
Christopher Strout, son of Anthony Strout and Mary christened Egloshayle 12 Sep 1631. Christopher Strout married ____________.
Anthony Strout, son of Christopher, christened Egloshayle 25 May 1657.
Anthony Strout, son of Christopher, christened Egloshayle 6 Oct 1664.
Digory Strout, son of Christopher, christened Egloshayle 13 Jan 1666.
It is possible that Christopher 1 Strout of Cape Cod was much older than Sarah Picke, married in 1680. If he were 49 years old when he married Sarah, then he was about 84 years old when he died ca 1715. Sarah could have been a second wife. Married: (2?)(1) on Dec 1680 at Marblehead (v/r), Sarah Picke, daughter of George & Sarah (________) Picke of Marblehead. George Picke came to Massachusetts prior to 5 Dec 1663 for on that date he purchased of Samuel Pondy of Marblehead, fisherman and his wife Anna, one end of a dwelling house in which said Pondy lived, In the deed he gives his occupation as fisherman. The name George Picke as recorded on a town list, 1674, when Marblehead's inhabitants had 'increased to such an extent' that there were 114 householders; at a meeting held during this year it was voted that 'all these 15 or 16 houses build in Marblehead before ye year 1660 shall be allowed one cows common and a half'. In Salem Quarterly Court will 9 Oct 1678-29 Nov 1679, Sarah Picke is witness to Ann Condy's will. Ann gives Sarah two porringers. Sarah married (2)(2) before 25 Oct 1716 Joesph Collins of Eastham. He died there ca 1723. She died at Cape Elizabeth and is buried in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, South Portland, in a lot with her son Christopher. (much of above based on original research by Dr. Leonard F. Tibbetts of South Yarmouth, MA). Misc: He Settled in that part of Eastham which was set off as Truro in 1709. (As he apparently originated from Truro, County Cornwall, perhaps he was instrumental in the naming of the new town, Truro, MA in 1709). One tradition states that he was shipwrecked in this country and stayed. He was in fishing business and some of his sons were known as 'whale fishermen'. His widow petitioned the Barnstable County Probate Court for adminstration of his estate on 9 Jul 1714, Barnstable County Probate Court records contain a document in the estate of Christopher 1 Strout identifying his widow on 25 Oct 1716, as 'Sarah Collins, late Sarah Strought, Administrix to ye Estate of Christopher Strout, late of Cape Cod in Said County, now deceased and now wife to Joseph Collins of Eastham in ye County of Barnstable'. I hope this info helps you - I got it from Capt. Tom Morse, perhaps he could help you even more. I see that he posts messages here. His e-mail is tomorse@acadia.net or his address is P.O. Box 203-- Castine, ME 04421. His telephone # is 207-326-8856." - Adella Hayward, 3310 W. Susan Lane, Lecanto, FL 34461; 352-527-9954
