[32500] Find A Grave Memorial 61966958 includes his photograph and offers: Oliver Perry Huss was the ninth child and seventh son of Christian Huss and Catherine Rathbun. On October 2, 1877, Oliver married Olive Arabelle Young. Oliver was a farmer in Green Creek, Ohio where three of their children were born. He went to Steuben County, Indiana and on December 2, 1887 entered into a contract to purchase land in Section 4 of Scott Township for $3,200, with possession to be given April 1, 1888. The family's good were shipped by rail and the family moved by train. Oliver and Olive purchased other lands in Section 33 of Fremont Township in 1891. Both farms required much clearing and ditching as well as buildings. With hard work by him and his family, they were made into productive farms with comfortable homes. It has been said, "Oliver seldom left his pleasant home for recreation only," and that applied to his family also. As their sons grew older Oliver turned the chores over to the boys during the winter and went to Arizona where he worked for and with his brother, Saxton. In 1911 Oliver, Olive and daughters Lucy and Edna, moved to Fremont, but he always kept his hand on the farms, driving his faithful mare, Susie, on the buggy to the farms to take part in all farming activities. After leaving the farm he raised onions for several seasons. Much to Olive's distraction he was never a fancy dresser, like his "chewin," and wouldn't attend church, but he was always respected as an honest, hard working, good citizen who had a helping hand for anyone. During his last years he was partially paralyzed by a stroke and spent some time in a wheelchair, wheeling himself about three blocks uptown to the favorite gathering place of the "boys." Oliver and Olive had children: Lucy May, Jay B, Ethel Irene, James Dallas, and Edna Leone.
