"The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 22 January 2021": "Penobscot - Elizabeth 'Betty' Gross passed away peacefully in a Bangor hospital on Jan. 21, 2021. Betty was born Nov. 12, 1932, in Sedgwick to William Lewis Closson and Evelyn May Gray. She was their only child. Betty Closson grew up in Brooksville and graduated as valedictorian of the Brooksville High School Class of 1950. That same year she married Arnold 'Bing' Gross of Penobscot and they settled in the town where she would make her mark as a valued member of the community. After raising her four children to school age, she became the first special education teacher at Penobscot Elementary School, where she worked for 28 years, finally retiring in 1995. Both at the school and at the South Penobscot Baptist Church, she took the lead in childrenÂ’s artistic and spiritual education. Her accomplishments included directing scores of plays and skits, leading youth choral groups and organizing excursions for the young people of Penobscot. She touched the lives of hundreds of kids with humor, wisdom and compassion. In addition to her youth activities, she was active in the Brooksville High alumni association, a tutor for Literacy Volunteers and held picnics and outings for the 'old folks' from the nursing home in town. She was also responsible for thousands of yeast rolls at local public suppers through the decades. Betty was the rock on which her family stood. She was predeceased in 2006 by her husband of 55 years, and her grandson Arnold 'Beau' Gross III in 2020. She is survived by her children Arnold 'Butch' Gross Jr. and wife, Nancy, of Bangor, Belinda Gross of Ithaca, N.Y., Bill Gross and wife, Annie, of Hermon and Ben Gross and wife, Susan, of Windham. Also, grandchildren Brooke Christopher of Bangor, Hayley Martinez of Beaverton, Ore., Heather Sears of East Hampstead, N.H.; Will Gross of Guilford; Evelyn Gross of Windham and great-grandkids Cameron, Brice, Sadie, Anastasia and Isaac.
Special appreciation goes to her niece Alta Gross for all the care and attention provided over the years. She was also blessed with great neighbors, Mark, David, Cordell, Gary and Florence."
[52866] Ida is said to be daughter of Johnson Fry (1829-1886) & Louisa Jane Campbell (1834-1916; m. 15 April 1854 in Old Town, Penobscot Co., ME).

[13775] "The Daily Item, 29 August 1967," p. 11: "Frank Clifford Stroh. 316 N Twelfth St., Sunbury, died this morning at 3 o'clock in Community Hospital, Sunbury, where he entered August 23. He was 83 years, of age. The late Mr. Stroh was born in Sunbury, February 8, 1884, the son of John William Stroh, well-known blacksmith and Sunbury Fire Chief, and Frances Maria Leitzel Stroh, a native of Schuylkill Haven. Mr. Stroh was graduated from Sunbury High School in the class of 1901 and attended Keller's Business College in Lewisburg for a year, after which he spent several years in Berwick as a stenographer for the American Car and Foundry Co. His association with local banks began with his return to Sunbury as a teller in the First National Bank, then at Front and Market Sts.. later in the old Y.M.C.A building. When the North Branch Title and Trust Company was organized, Mr. Stroh was appointed cashier, and served in that position until about 1925, when he resigned and, after a brief period with the Lewisburg Trust and Safe Deposit Company, opened an office in Sunbury as a public accountant. His brother, the late Raymond Weiser Stroh, joined him about 1940: Among their clients were many local business firms, and both Bucknell University and Susquehanna University. They practiced actively until the early 1950's; by 1958 declining health had forced both partners into virtual retirement. In his youth Frank Stroh was an enthusiastic horseback rider, and made two or three trips of several hundred miles each through eastern Pennsylvania including one to Philadelphia. Later, in the 1930's, he became interested in the then newly marketed amateur movie cameras, and he pursued this hobby energetically for a number of years. Many area residents will recall seeing his striking films of the 1936 flood. In 1917 Mr. Stroh married Grace Viola Seiler of Shamokin. They had two children, a daughter Ruth, who died in infancy, and a son, W. Richard Stroh, of Baltimore, who survives. Mrs. Stroh died in 1953. Funeral services will be held from the Shipman Memorial Chapel Friday at 2 p.m. His pastor, Rev. Carl J. Johansson of Zion Lutheran Church, Sunbury, will officiate. Interment -will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery, Shamokin."
