He was married three times and had two sons and two daughters. He died on May 8, 1826, in Nescopeck, Pennsylvania, having lived a long life of 81 years. Rosanna Klientaub was born in 1745 in Northampton, Pennsylvania. She married Jacob Smithers in 1769 in her hometown. She had four children by the time she was 27. She died as a young mother in 1775 in Northampton, Pennsylvania, at the age of 30."

In the 1920 census there she is age 7 and her father Edward's parents are from Germany (father) and Pennsylvania (mother); her mother's parents are from Iowa; Edward works in a tractor factory. In the 1900 census at Charles City Edward is age 11, b. in April 1889, in the family of William (b. March 1856 in Germany) and wife Susan (b. Nov 1855 in IA); William is a day laborer who emigrated to the USA in 1877. Find A Grave Memorial 68925762 includes her photo and offers: "Inez is survived by her daughters, Pat Johnson, Joan Wilson, Jo Haverkamp and Virginia Poulk; and sons, Jim and Robert Heichel. She was preceded in death by her son, D.R. Heichel; and husband, Russell Heichel in 1969 (1971). A service was held in Waterloo, Iowa, where Inez was born."
