[13747] The census 19 July 1870 of Shamokin, PA lists John (age 28), his wife Mary (age 20) and daughter Rose (age 1), all b. in PA, and reports that John is a school teacher with real estate valued at $1000 and personal estate valued at $200. Find A Grave memorial 44230694 offers: "John K. Haas, of Shamokin, aged 56, a well known business-man, died yesterday from neuralgia of the heart. After graduating at Franklin and Marshall College, he was a school teacher until the Civil War, when he joined the One Hundred and Thirty First Regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers. Later he was engaged in mercantile pursuits in Sunbury and Shamokin. He was a well known Democrat and served in town council. -- Harrisburg Daily Independent, December 8, 1898"
