Barker, 67, wife of former Sheriff Jared Barker and mother of Mrs. Bessie Hawkins, prominent clubwoman, died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Sarah Schwinn, 377 Jullen ave. Mrs. Barker had been in failing health since last June when she suffered a stroke. Short services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the Schwinn residence followed by funeral services at 2 o'clock at Ghent Disciple church with Rev. George W. Knepper officiating. Burial will be at Bath. Mrs. Barker had been a member of the Ghent church for the last 40 years. Mrs. Barker who was the former Almira Myers of Rome City, Ind, came to Summit county as a bride in 1883. She and Mr. Barker went to housekeeping at Ghent and lived there until 1903 when the latter was elected to the office of sheriff, at which time they took up their residence in Akron. Later Mr. Barkey was named a county commissioner and the couple remained here until last September when they returned to Ghent. Mrs. Barker was a member of the Women's Benefit association, Order of Eastern Star and the Fifty-Year club. Besides her husband, she leaves three daughters, Mrs. Schwinn, Mrs. Hawkins and Mrs. Pearl Halderman, and five grandchildren."
