Kathy was born on November 10, 1944, in Bangor, Maine, to Arthur and Madeline Whalen. She carried the spirit of her birthplace with her throughout her life, nurturing a strong sense of resilience that was as solid as the rocky Maine coastline. This resilient spirit, coupled with her empathetic heart, made her a beacon of strength and love for her family, friends, and all who knew her. On May 7, 1994, Kathy married Gil Whitney. They made their home in Lakeville, Maine, for years until they moved to Laughlin, Nevada, in 2011 to escape the winters and high humidity of the northeast. Kathy's intellectual prowess was unmistakable. Kathy's intelligence was only outmatched by her loving and kind heart. Her children were the center of her universe, and she loved them with an intensity that was deeply felt by all. As a young woman she spent most of her time in the woods. This theme kept up through her adulthood, where you would likely find her hunting and fishing in the beautiful state she called home. She was very friendly and never met anyone she couldn't have a conversation with. Kathy is survived by her husband, Gil Whitney; sisters, Darlene (Barry) Buzzell and Charlene (Donnie) Whalen; daughter, Angela (Guy) Rouelle; her sons, Norm (Amy) and James (Kayla) Millett; stepchildren, Diane Kelly, Jeff Whitney and Holly (Scott) Demchak; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all those along the way who were lucky enough to call her mom, gram or nana. She is also survived by her long time companion and caregiver, David Sandy. The family is forever grateful for his love and dedication. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Madeline Whalen; sister, Shirley Conroy; beloved fiancé, Leland Davis; and her son Tom Millett. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. June 1, 2025, at Waugh Cemetery, 4128 Union St., Levant."
