He was born Aug. 21, 1904 in Southwest Harbor, son of Frank ond Maud (Holmes) Gilley. He studied at the University of Maine at Orono and was a plumbing and heating contractor for 27 years. He was an artist and writer who authered a book on bird carvtng and painting that has gone through many editions. For several yean he was president of the National Woodcarvers Association. The Doctor of Humane Letters Degree was conferred upon him by the University of Maine at Farmington. The Wendoll Gilley Museum in Southwest Harbor was built to honor him and his artistic achievement. He was a fifty year member of Treemont Masonic lodge No. 77, a 58 year member of Pemetic Lodge No. 135 IOOF of Southwest Harbor. He is survived by his wife Addie (Bragdon) Gilley of Southwest Harbor; one son, Leonard; three grandchildren, Anne, Amy and Thomas all of Farmington; one sister, Neolla Gallant of Bovina Center, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews."

After his retirement he was director of the Caribou Senior Citizens Program and initiated the Alternate School Program at Ashland Community High School. Besides his father and stepmother, John H. and Gertrude Seeley of Sinclair, he is survived by his wife, Louise (Higgins) Seeley of Presque Isle; two sons, Hayden and daughter-in-law, Aurelie Seeley of Presque Isle, and Hal Seeley of Guilford; one daughter, Dilonna and son-in-law, Steve Coran of Williamsport, Pa.; one half brother, Richard Seeley of Virginia Beach, Va.; three grandchildren, Chevonne, Stefanie and Michael; several cousins."
