[48542] "The Ellsworth American, 23 March 2021:" "Penobscot - Mary Ellen 'Cupe' (Bakeman) Gross died on March 19, 2021, at Northern Light Blue Hill Hospital. She was born on July 22, 1952, in Castine to Oliver 'Gook' and Dorothy 'Dot' Bakeman. She grew up in Cape Rosier. Cupe married the love of her life, Cordell, on March 15, 1969. They settled in Penobscot, where they raised three daughters. Through the years, Cupe worked as a CNA at Penobscot Nursing Home and at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. She worked for the town of Penobscot for 18 years as tax collector, treasurer, clerk and administrative assistant until she was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. It was a job she loved and was sad to leave. Cupe loved to crochet, quilt and knit and was an avid reader. She enjoyed going on adventures with her sister 'Crisco.' She was predeceased by her parents, her husbands parents, her beloved niece Kristen and brother-in-law Sheldon. She will be dearly missed by her husband of 52 years, Cordell Gross, daughters Gail and husband, Peter Grant, Molly Varnum and partner Scott, Annie and husband, Keith Tilsley, grandchildren Ethan Grant and fiancée Katrinia, Dori and husband, Christian Goddard, LeeAnn Varnum, Adam, Ella and Lacey Tilsley, siblings Frank Bakeman, Robert Bakeman and wife, Helen, Elaine Murak, Elizabeth and husband, Robert Herrick, and David Bakeman, special niece Sara and many other nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Alta Gross and brothers-in-law David and Mark Gross."
[37248] Agnes' marriage record states she is daughter of William A. Bell and Mamie Post - see "Maine, Marriages, 1771-1907," index, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/F46L-C6N).
[4948] "Peeps into Picardy," Fifth Edition, W. D. Craufurd and E. & E. A. Manton (London: 1919), pp. 36-37: "According to Lambert d'Ardres there stood in the year 1,000, in the midst of the vast prairie of pasturage, probably some halfleague from the present site of the town, a large solitary chateau called 'Selvesse.' This ancient fortified chateau came into the possession of a young lady called Adela, a descendant of the Seigneurs of Bourbourg, and with the chateau, all the lands and domains around it. ...Now Eustace, Count of Guines, Lord-paramount of Artois and Picardy, asked the hand of the heiress of Selvesse in marriage, but the Bishop of Therouanne, her uncle, had assigned all her possessions to the church of Therouanne, placing his niece under the Church's special protection. After having secured her property and thwarted the Count of Guines, the bishop brought about an alliance for her with the Chatelain of Furne, who for his piety was created a peer, though he died soon after leaving two daughters named Adela and Adelis - the former marrying Eustace de Fiennes, the father of the founder of the Abbey of Beaulieu. After the death of her first husband the heiress of Selvesse married Arnold, brother to the Chatelain of Bergue, to whom the town of Ardres is indebted for its foundation. His first care was to erect a strongly fortified castle built in the form of a labyrinth, that he named 'La Motte d'Ardres.' He then began the parish church, dedicated it to St. Omer, within which eventually the founder and his wife were buried. This church still exists, and is now hemmed in by rather tumbled-down cottages, some of them being almost built into the edifice."
[36667] This person is from the unverified Leslie Hall's tree in Ancestry.com in 2014. "Miners Journal [Pottsville, PA], 2 September 1898," p. 1: "Polly, widow of Peter Stutzman, residing at Heginsville, died after a year's illness, aged 78 years. Funeral at Christ's cemeterv, Fountain. Revs. Kerschner and Schacffer will officiate."
