In 1776 he was made captain of this company of 55 men, rank and ile and was in the regiment under the command of Col. Jonathan Cogswell, of Chebacco, Ipswich, and did active service in the war for independence. Farmer, inherited by will 1/2 of his father's farm, upon which he lived until 1794, when he sold to Ebenezer and Nathaniel Burnham, and removed to Lunenberg, Worchester Co., MA, where he died. After his death his wife Martha returned to Salem where she died at the home of their son David at the age of 92."
