[57981] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 16 November 2024: "Charlottesville, VA - It is with the deepest sadness and regret that we share the news that Raymond E. Beal, 87, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2024, surrounded by family. He was born in Milbridge, ME, on July 24, 1937, the son of Kennard and Elizabeth Beal. Ray grew up in Downeast Maine and attended Bowdoin College. After serving as a linguist in the U.S. Army, Ray joined the company New England Business Service where he worked for over 30 years. In his many years at NEBS, he served as plant manager for multiple facilities and as general manager when NEBS opened its first international plant in Midland, Ontario. While in Canada, Ray enjoyed boating on Georgian Bay in the Great Lakes and was introduced to 'muskie' fishing by his dear friend Bob Richardson. Their two families spent countless hours catching large fish and telling larger tales about their adventures. After his time in Canada, Ray brought his family back home to Lunenburg, MA where he and Sallie resided until 2017. Ray took an active role in his community serving as the Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals and various leadership roles in the United Parish of Lunenburg. Following his retirement from NEBS in 2001, Ray embarked on a second career as a commercial realtor with the Foster-Healey brokerage firm based out of Fitchburg. In 2017, Ray and Sallie moved south to Virginia to be closer to their eldest son and two granddaughters. Ray was a devoted family man, possessing a gentle soul and wry sense of humor and will be sorely missed. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sallie; his eldest son, Raymond; granddaughters, Isabella and Brianna; and his youngest son, Clayton and his wife, Dianne."
