John was with his father and brothers in military service constructing and staffing Fort Pownal, and settled with brother Andrew in Castine and then Sedgwick. For further on his family, see "Penobscot Pioneers" (1993), p. 9. He died 1790/91, probably at Sedgwick, ME. Mark E. Honey ("Castine Patriot," 8 July 2004, p. 5) reports that John "served as a Sergeant in Captain William Reed's company, enlisting on August 9, 1777, and being discharged on Sept. 28, 1777.
