Born in Hermon, Maine, son of the late Arthur and Julia Peabody Dole, he was educated in Maine, and went on to receive his bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting. Before his retirement, he had been employed by the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon. He was a Navy veteran, serving honorably during World War II. He saw action in the Battles of Omaha, Normandy and the Bulge. Also surviving are a daughter, Sara Paquette and her husband, Armond; a son, Chris Dole and his wife, Linda; a granddaughter, Tiffany Grayczyk and her husband, Joe; two great-granddaughters, Madelyn and Olivia Grayczyk; a sister, Priscilla Wickett; a brother, Roger Dole; nieces and nephews.
