[61354] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 25 January 2026: "Patten, Maine - Freda E. (Hall) Stubbs passed peacefully under the gentle care of Houlton Regional Hospital on January 16, 2026, after a brief illness. Freda was born and grew up in Patten, Maine, on December 4, 1928. She was the single child of William 'Bill' Hall and Alice (Hatt) Hall, and the sister of 12 half siblings. Freda was the wife of Vern Stubbs. Together, they built their home and raised their two children, Kevin and Cheryle, in Sherman, ME, where they resided for 65 years before Vern passed away in 2012. An inquisitive mind, adventurous spirit, and eager conversationalist would define much of Freda's 97 years. Her passion for recording her life's journey rests in her many journals, letters to family and friends, and rambling margin notes on her many newsworthy clippings. At Christmas, her amazing untrained soprano Ave Maria filled St. Joseph's choir. She was a telephone operator in the '50s, a CNA, and a caregiver to elderly family members and neighbors. Together, Freda and Vern established Jerry Pond Camps, a small rustic sporting camp business in northern Maine, where season after season fishermen, hunters, and 'family' from near and far who valued the peaceful outdoors were welcomed with Vern's handshake, a hot cup of coffee, and Freda's fresh donuts. Freda is survived by her son, Kevin of Weston and his three children, Angie, Kelly, and Wade; her daughter, Cheryle, son-in-law, Dan Joslyn of Whitefield, and their children, Brooke, Travis, and Rae; and nine great-grandchildren. Known as Feef to her grandchildren, Freda is fondly remembered for her never ending energy and highly anticipated adventures to the woods. Freda was predeceased by 10 half sisters and brothers, Lucy, Tim, Kathleen, Chester, Vaughn, Lorraine, Wendell, Donna, Dianna, and Buzzy. She is survived by her two half sisters, Norma Bragdon of Sherman and Marilyn Hall of Palm Desert, CA; and several nieces, nephews, and very kind neighbors."
