[57664] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 26 November 2022: "Presque Isle - Burns Alan Weeks went home to be with his Lord and Savior on November 21, 2022. He was born on August 19, 1930, in Masardis, Maine. He was the youngest of four children born to Charles Lincoln Weeks Jr. and Grace Murphy Weeks. Burns graduated from Presque Isle High School in the class of 1948. He farmed two years with his older brother Rodney on the family farm in Masardis. He then graduated in February of 1952 from Maine Technical Vocational Institute in Augusta with an associate's degree in Metal Work Technology. The Hyde Windlass Company which is now part of Bath Iron Works hired him upon graduation but Uncle Sam sent him greetings soon after. He was inducted into the army at Fort Devens on May 12, 1952. After training, Burns received his posting in Germany on the east-west border with the 364th Armored Cavalry. He received a leave before shipping out and rushed back to Maine to marry Irma Arlene Batchelder in Houlton on March 26, 1953. Twelve days later he was on a troop ship enroute route to Germany. Upon his return, they settled in Presque Isle where Burns was hired in May 1954 by Maine Public Service Company as a lineman, journeyman, line foreman, assistant Superintendent of Transmission and Distribution and his final position as Superintendent of T and D until his retirement in November of 1993 after 40 years of service. Since 1954, Burns has been a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church. He has held multiple positions in the Church such as President, Deacon, Usher and Board member at Bethany as well as President of the North Aroostook Baptist Laymen's Association, Moderator of the North Aroostook American Baptist Association and Representative to the Baptist Park Corp. He completed a Stone Webster management course, several management development courses at the University of Maine in Presque Isle and a hydraulics certificate program through Northern Maine Technical College. He successfully finished a Toastmasters International course in 1980 holding the office of President in his local chapter. He joined the PROBUS organization representing it as their President from 1995 - 96. He was a member for life of the American Legion Ray Goding Post 88 in Presque Isle for 33 years. He served as a Vice Commander, Membership Recruiter, Membership Chair and as Adjunct for many years. Burns was a dedicated man. He was dedicated to God, his church, his wife, his family, his work and his country. His dedication gave him the respect of the people that he worked with and served in his community as well as the abiding love of his family. He is survived by his children, Debra E. Wright (Bryan), Diane W. Green (Richard), David B. Weeks (Deborah) - his grandchildren, Melissa A. Smith (James), Emerson M. Wright, Daren J. Green (Denise), Meaghan L. Ellis (Perrin), Nathanial D. Weeks (Andrea), Nicholas B. Weeks (Jessica) - eleven great-grandchildren with a twelfth on the way and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his beloved wife of almost 69 years, Irma Batchelder Weeks; his in-laws, George H. And Hazel Baldwin Batchelder; his brothers and sisters-in-law, Rodney Weeks and wife, Frances, Francis Weeks and wife, Ruth and his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara Weeks Machcinski and husband, Victor."
