[61508] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 17 February 2026: "Bangor, Maine - Gerald R. Kirby, 79, of Bangor, Maine, died peacefully in the hospital on February 10, 2026. Gerald was born in Milo, Maine, on January 22, 1947. He grew up in Brownville Jct. He was an exceptional athlete for Brownville Jct. High School, where he played basketball and baseball. After graduating, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he spent 3 years. He went on to become a Maine State Trooper for approximately 6 years. Next, he worked for 26 years for Dexter Shoe in their HR department. Following this, he went on to work for Securitas Security in HR for 17 years until he retired in 2020. Those that will miss him most are his wife of 57 years, Jennie Dwelley Kirby; his daughter, Michelle Tolman and husband, Jerry; and his son, Gerald Kirby Jr. He took great joy in his grandchildren, Emily Webber and husband, Andrew, and Austin Tolman and partner, Michaela Tolman; and great-grandchildren, Audrina, Caroline and Oliver. Gerald is survived by his brothers, John Kirby and wife, Diane, and Alan Kirby and wife, Pam; sister, Dianne Kirby and Dennis Bowden; his brother-in-law, Dick DeWitt; his stepmother, Mary Kirby; his stepsisters, Heidi Poole and husband, Mark, and Tina Meserve and husband, Jeff; stepbrother, Chris Whitney and wife, Brenda; and special friends, Bev and Stan Tremblay, and Glenda Sawyer. Gerald was predeceased by his infant daughter, Melissa Kirby; his parents, John and Ardelle Kirby; brother, Wayne Kirby and his wife, Sheila Mills Kirby; and his sister, Deanna Kirby DeWitt. Honoring Gerald's wishes, his family has chosen cremation. He will be buried at the Maine Veterans' Cemetery in Augusta. Services will be announced at a later date."
