[32516] Ancestry.com offers: "Hall Name Meaning - English, Scottish, Irish, German, and Scandinavian: from Middle English hall (Old English heall), Middle High German halle, Old Norse holl all meaning 'hall' (a spacious residence), hence a topographic name for someone who lived in or near a hall or an occupational name for a servant employed at a hall. In some cases it may be a habitational name from places named with this word, which in some parts of Germany and Austria in the Middle Ages also denoted a salt mine. The English name has been established in Ireland since the Middle Ages, and, according to MacLysaght, has become numerous in Ulster since the 17th century."

[13294] "Mount Union Times [Mount Union, PA], 3 January 1919," p. 1: "Word comes from Huntingdon to the effect that George W. Sanderson will enter the Republican Primaries this year as a candidate for County Commissioner. Many staunch friends from all over the County have persuaded him to he a candidate. Mr. Sanderson came to Huntingdon fifty years ago. He came hero from New Bloomfield, Perry County, to attend the Academy, under the tutorship of Prof. James Stephens. He Iater taught the first Grammar School of Huntingdon for nine yours. He then taught the High School in Petersburg for one your. After his teaching in Petersburg he embarked into the mercantile business in Huntingdon, and has continued in this business for thirty-eight years. Mr. Sanderson is a Direcror of the Standing Stone National Bank, of Huntingdon. He has held that position since the Bank's organization about ten yours ago. He has never asked for any political ofice. Has always been a Republican. Mr. Sanderson's platform will be very brief: ' Economy'. To those who may chance to know our good friend Sanderson, will, in no wise, doubt his high qualifications for the office he aspires to. He is well known, and beloved by all who share his acquaintanceship. He is and has been for many years a leading member of the Lutheran Church."

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frances_Villiers,_Countess_of_Jersey which reports: "She was born Frances Twysden, second and posthumous daughter of the Rev. Dr Philip Twysden (c.1714-1752), Bishop of Raphoe (1746-1752) (died 2 November 1752, allegedly shot while attempting to rob a stagecoach in London) and his second wife Frances Carter (later wife of General Johnston), daughter of Thomas Carter of Castlemartin, Master of the Rolls. Her disreputable-in-death father was third son of Sir William Twysden, 5th Baronet of Roydon Hall, East Peckham, Kent, by his wife and distant cousin Jane Twisden. The Twysden family was convincingly traced from one Roger Twysden living around 1400. Barely a month past her 17th birthday, she married the 34 year-old new (4th) Earl of Jersey, George Villiers, son and heir of William Villiers, 3rd Earl of Jersey and his wife Lady Anne Egerton who, the year before, had been appointed a Gentleman of the Bedchamber to King George III.
Her husband was appointed Master of Horse to the Prince of Wales in 1795."
