Lee was born April 23, 1939, in Seal Harbor, to Pearl and Avis Whitten Grindle (deceased). She graduated from Mount Desert Island High School in 1957 and Farmington State Teachers College in 1961. Survived by her daughter, Wendy Fritz; son, Michael Fritz and his partner, Alice Pope in Atlanta, Ga.; one sister, Susan Grindle and wife, Janice Collucci, of Seal Harbor; her uncle, Hal Whitten, Toronto, Canada; nieces, Michele Croan (husband, Charlie), Kelley Williams (husband, Pete and son, Mitchell), and Christine Morrison (husband, Jeff, sons, James and Shane); nephew, Jack Cunningham (wife, Beth and sons, Jamie, Jared and Sam) from Maine. Preceded in death by grandson, Joe Dennany; sister, Hortense Abbott and husband, Arthur; brother, Stephen Grindle and wife, Lu; grandparents who helped raise her, Orris and Clara Grindle; and uncles Glen and Everett Whitten. Since moving to Atlanta in 1969, shed worked at home, Emory University, Willett Toyota and Georgia Perimeter College. Lee was a loving mother, aunt, friend, neighbor and animal rescuer. She supported the Humane Society, Village Veterinary Clinic rescues and SPCA. She rescued numerous cats and dogs over the years, with two surviving cats, Henny Penny and Andy. She was a kidney transplant recipient and frequently donated to the American Kidney Services. Maine continued to be her home in her heart no matter where she lived. Her celebratory visit to Maine after the transplant in 2012 was a highlight, including time spent with family, her childhood and college friends, walks in Acadia and the trip to the top of the Bubbles."
