She was born January 24, 1937, in Bangor, the daughter of Arthur L. and Sarah R. (Grant) Pierce. Lois attended Bangor elementary schools and Bangor High School, class of 1955. Upon high school graduation, she worked at the General Adjustment Bureau. She married Daniel Spellman in January 1959. During their marriage, Lois and Danny worked together at Spellman & Son Insurance for many years. After retiring from the insurance business, Lois and Danny operated a Four Seasons Sunrooms in Bangor. During their 61 years of marriage, Lois and Danny also raised three children from their Hampden home. Both were very active within St. Matthew's and St. Mary's Catholic churches. Lois was also proud of her work in the funeral ministry, and her 30 years of volunteer work at Dorothy Day Soup Kitchen. Lois was a member of the Hampden Historical Society. She enjoyed playing cards and drinking coffee with many long-time friends. She also spent much of her time with her family at the camp she and Danny built on Branch Lake. In addition to her parents, Lois was predeceased by her husband, Danny and her infant daughter, Sara Marie; and her brother-in-law, Paul Wilbur. She is survived by their daughters, Cheryl Pearson and her husband, Jon, of Merrimac, Massachusetts, Stacey Trembley and her husband, Keith, of Orono, Maine, and their son, Michael Spellman and his wife, Frances, of South Salem, New York; their ten grandchildren, Jared and his wife, Amanda, Elizabeth and her husband Alex, Evan, Matthew, Timothy, Kathryn, Kristin, Thomas, Jonathan, and Keira; five great-grandchildren, Myles, Amelia, Landon, Braelynn, and Hudson; two sisters, Phyllis Wilbur of Hermon, Nancy and her husband, Phil Luttrell, of Bangor; her sisters-in-law, Sharon (Harry) Folster, Charlotte (Scott) Present, Paulette (Bill) Rideout, and Michaeleen (Tom) Bohan; and several nieces and nephews. Additionally, the family would like to thank Cheri McGuire and Visiting Angels of Bangor, CHCS' Hospice Services, and many family friends."

Marr of the Methodist church officiating. There was a profusion of floral tributes with many from local business firms and fraternal organizations. The bearers were J. O. Gilman, Perley E. Cary, Fred L. Warren, and C. T. Libbey, and interment was in the family lot at Riverside cemetery. Attending the services from out of town were an only son, Hubert Wardwell, Jr., and Mrs. Wardwell of Concord, Mass.; and daughters, Mrs. Frederic A. Hatch and Dr. Hatch of Bangor; Mrs. William J. D. Ratcliff and Mr. Ratcliff of Peabody, Mass, and a daughter. Miss Virginia Wardwell, who made her home with her parents. Also a brother, Everett C. Wardwell and Mrs. Wardwell ot Watervllle; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Henry Wardwell of Newton Highlands; a nephew, Ernest A. Frye and Mrs. Frye of Albion; a brother-in-law. Frank E. Merrill and Mrs. Merrill, a sister-in-law, Miss Martha Merrill and niece, Mrs. Robert French, and nephew, Phillip Merrill andMrs. Merrill, all of Madison; and a sister-in-law, Ms, (Edward E. Merrill of Bangor. All places of business were closed during the services out of respect to a former prominent business man here. Mr. Wardwell who was born in Bucksport, the son of Albion and Mary Hatch Wardwell and came to Newport in 1881 when he purchased the dry goods business of A. Hobart and Son and which he carried on until 1921 when he retired from active business here. He was president of the E. C. Wardwell and Company in Waterville and kept his interest there until the store was sold in 1928. Mr. Wardwell was always interested and active in all local civic enterprises, was the first president of the Newport Trust Company, a position he held many years, was a regular attendant of the Methodist church, a past noble grand and many years a trustee of Old Hickory lodge, I. O. O. F and a charter member of Victoria Rebekah lodge, a Mason and past worthy patron of Nokomis Chapter, O. E. S. He married Miss Cordelia Merrill of Newport in 1890 and her death occurred suddenly last March while attending the State Convention of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Bangor."
