[58683] Everett's obituary: "Stonington - Everett Allison Billings, 74, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003, at a Deer Isle health care facility. He was born Nov. 16, 1928, in Stonington, the son of John Everett and Addie Myrtle (Morey) Billings. He attended the local schools, graduating from Stonington High School in 1946. His first job after graduation was working in the South Portland railroad yards. Everett returned to Stonington to go lobstering with his father and in 1947 met his future wife, best friend and caregiver, Betty Joan Gross. They married in 1950, and recently celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary. Everett became well known for his ability to design, build, and repair the huge fishing nets used on the fleet of trawlers fishing on the Grand Banks and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. After 22 years as Mate on the 140' trawlers, he came ashore to build and hang gillnets for the inshore fleet. He also knit thousands of heads for lobster traps until his most recent illness. Everett was a proud member of the Joshua Davis Lodge, IOOF, for over 57 years. He was predeceased by his parents; half sisters, Kathleen Barter and Esther Burrill; a beloved brother, Donald; and a three-year-old daughter, Judy Lorraine Billings. Everett is survived by his wife, Betty Billings of Stonington; two daughters, Kathleen Eaton and her husband, Thomas, of Cape Neddick, and Beth Bigler and her husband, Paul, of Columbus, Ohio; four sons, Dana Billings and his wife, Barbara, Brian Billings and his wife, Annette, all of Deer Isle, Jerald Billings and his wife, Prudence, of Brewer, and Brad Billings and his wife, Suzanne, of Deer Isle; 11 grandchildren, Benjamin, Marissa, Ryan, Josh, Amanda, Joseph, Connor, Cameron, Dominick, Desmond, and Delaney; a brother, Norman Billings of Bath; three sisters, Elaine Capen of Mariaville, Lillian Anderson of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Mary Weber of College Point, N.Y.; close friends, Robin, Stacey, Sonya and David; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins."
