They were married on 24 Jul 1845 in Atchison. Sarah was the oldest of two other siblings beside herself: Mary Susan (1848-1942) and John Henry (1850-1934). 'The Humes descended from a long line of Scotch nobility which dates back to about 1020 A.D. Crinian the Thane, a nobleman before the Norman Conquest (1066), married Princess Beatrice, daughter of Malcom II, King of Scots.' She had given birth to 15 children with 12 of them living at that time. She was listed as a farmer with three oldest sons in their twenties working the farm. In 1910, age 65, she was in Elberton, Whitman County, listed as a farmer with William (44), James (39) & Silas (26) working the family farm and Effie (24) helping out. In 1912, age 67, she helps celebrate her daughter, Artie Mecie's, 50th wedding anniversary with Robert Edward Burns. In 1920, age 75, she is living with her sons Sabird B (44) farmer, William (55) dairy farmer, James (49) stock farmer and daughter Minnie Yackley (31) in Fall City, King County, Washington. In 1930, age 85, she is living with her sons, William (65) who has his own farm, Sabird (54)county road worker, and James (58) county road worker, in Fall City."
