[51468] "Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine], 28 Decembe 2013": "Houlton - John Everett Gray, 68 passed away peacefully at his home on December 27, 2013. He was born September 10, 1945 in Castine, the sixth of 6 children to Earl Warren and Erma Bell (Nevells) Gray. John's wonderful smile, sparkling blue eyes and sense of humor won the hearts of the many people who worked with him and encountered him in the community. John lived at Forest Springs Group Home for 17 years. He spent the last 6 months of his life at Harmony Nursing Home. He loved to tease and be teased by the people who worked with him. The loving care provided by these individuals brightened each of his days. John was loved by many and will be sorely missed. John spent the majority of his younger years in Down East Maine. For many years his brother, Gaylen, organized a family reunion and cook-out at Lamoine Beach. John would spend a night or two in the Ellsworth area. Each year, more family members gathered to see Johnnie. John looked forward to and talked about his vacation all throughout the year. He loved music of any kind, spending time outdoors, cooking burgers on the grill, Chinese takeout, coffee and cruising in his motorized wheelchair. Visits with friends and family members meant the world to John. In addition to his vacation, John's favorite occasions were his birthday and Christmas. Although John became seriously ill and doctors did not expect him to survive the summer of 2012, John wasn't ready to go until he had celebrated two more birthdays and Christmases. Until his health began to fail, John regularly attended the Houlton Wesleyan Church. He especially enjoyed the musical portion of the service. He is survived by his brothers, Gaylen Gray of Bucksport, Durwood Gray of East Machias, David Gray of Andover, NY and his twin sister, Joan Gomm of Bangor; as well as many niece nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Earl Gray."

[14894] Findlay is listed as a pioneer settler of Penobscot, Hancock Co., ME - see http://history.rays-place.com/me/penobscot-me.htm. Findlay was a Loyalist and moved to Canada and owned Malcolm Mills at Oakland, Ontario. A Finlay Malcolm [sic] is listed in "The Artificers and Inhabitants Who Built Fort George, Penobscot, 1779-1780" in "The Maine Genealogist" magazine (Vol. 26, p. 60; 2004) as serving as a laborer in 1779. See the notes for his father, Duncan Malcolm. Vince Alexander posted in 2001 on Ancestry.com: "Finlay Malcolm was a sea captain. He owned a trading vessel that plied between Scotland and America. Finlay set out for himself early in life as he is recorded in 1769 at Penobscot, now Castine, Maine, as an early settler on the northern bay, "Majobigwaduce." He is recorded in his Majesty's service at Fort George during the seige by the Continentals in 1779. About 1769, Finlay and his brother John were settlers of Northern Bay. He was also a member of the Penobscot Association Grant, at St. Andrew's, in 1784. Finlay was a United Empire Loyalist and received a grant of land for his adherence to the King during the American Revolution. At Castine, Maine, Finlay met and married Tryphena Wardwell. She was the daughter of Captain Daniel Wardwell of York, Me. Tryphena was born in 1761 at York, Me. and died in Oakland Township, Oxford (now Brant) County, Ontario, on Jan. 16, 1813. She was buried in the old Oakland cemetary. In 1798, Finlay with his wife, Tryphena, and their family moved to Upper Canada. Before leaving Penobscot, Me., the records show that he sold out his real estate holdings amounting to several hundred acres." See "Oakland Township: Two Hundred Years," Vol. 4, part 2, p. 1125.
