Joan was born in Castine on September 10, 1945. She enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid wrestling fan and especially loved spending time with her family and was affectionally known as 'Gram'. She was predeceased by her grandparents, Everett and Gertrude Nevells of Penobscot, her parents, Earl and Erma Gray of Penobscot, twin brother Johnny Gray of Houlton, brothers Durwood Gray of Machias, and Earl Gray Jr. of Penobscot, son in law Dwayne 'Tom' Murphy of Dedham, daughter in law Michelle Gomm of South Carolina, and grandson Charles Gomm, III of South Carolina. She is survived by her two brothers Galen Gray of Bucksport and David Gray of New York. She is also survived by her children, Judith Larry and partner Charles Walsh of Clifton, Jessie Gomm of Bangor, Charles Gomm Jr. and spouse Theresa Gomm of North Carolina, Amy Murphy of Dedham, Karen Blenkhorn of Old Town, Earl 'Billy' Gomm of South Carolina, Lance Gomm and spouse Jennifer Gomm of Bangor, and her very best friends, Eva Allen of Brooksville and great-granddaughter Jasmine MacGregor Gray of Bangor. She was also the proud grandmother to her grandchildren, Alicia Gray and partner Mick Walker, Matt Gray, Kassie Gray and partner Michael Robertson, Roland Blenkhorn, Russell Blenkhorn, Ryan Curtis, Brandon Gomm, Kristie Jackson, Kristin Hammond, Katherine Gomm, Carolina Gomm, Amber Gomm-Little and spouse Mario Little, Delcina Gomm and Mykayla Dawes. As well as great-grandchildren Terrance MacGregor, Bella Robertson, Katie Robertson, Bryson Dameron, Tyler Gray, Emma Gray, Iciania Burgess and great-great grandchildren Kai Gomm, Nadiah Curtis, and Haley Hammond."

[12466] Mansfield News-Journal, 11 December 1983, p. 4: Allen E. Heichel, 57, of 732 Mansfield-Lucas Road died Friday evening in Deaconess Hospital, Cleveland, after a brief illness. Born June 19, 1926, in Mansfield, he had lived in the area most of his life. He was a certified registered nurse-anesthesiologist at the Cleveland Clinic. Mr. Heichel was a past president of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, the Mansfield General Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Michigan. During World War II, he served in as an Army medical corpsman. Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Katherine Ostajeski of Mansfield; three sisters, Mrs. Katherine Crose, Mrs. John (Shirley) Cline and Mrs. Coy (Mary) Davis, all of Mansfield; and three brothers, Earl, David and Kenneth, all of Mansfield.

The connection that caught my attention was Ashland, OH. Plus the fact that Shakley is not a common name and except for the Sheakleys in Mercer PA (who say they are not related) most are. John Shakley has CIVIL WAR SERVICE CERTIFICATE:
Jacob SHAKLEY enrolled on 11 August 1862 and served until 13 June 1865. Jacob was a resident of Wayne County, Ohio and a blacksmith when he enrolled. He was discharged at Nashville, Tennessee. It was stated thar he was twenty-one years of age and born in Butler County, Pennsylvania.5
By 1 June 1900, according to the 1900 U. S. Census, Jacob Shakley was widowed and was living alone as a farmer in Ridgeville Township, Lorain County, Ohio (Document S-6). The month and year of his birth were include in the census enumeration; this was May 1941. Ridgeville is about thirty miles north of west Salem and is near Cleveland, Ohio5
The 1910 U. S. Census was then consulted. Jacob Shakley had remarried, to Eliza C., from Ohio, and had returned to his earlier residence of Wayne County, Ohio (Document S-7). Jacob and Eliza C. were residing in West Salem Village in Congress Township. Jacob's birth in 1841 was confirmed again by the 1910 U. S. Census.5
