In 2011 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_I_de_Balliol offers: "Bernard I de Balliol (died 1154 x 1162), the second known ruling Balliol of his line, was a twelfth-century Anglo-Picard baron based for much of his time in the north of England, as well as at Bailleul-en-Vimeu close to Abbeville in northern France. He was the nephew and next known successor of Guy I de Balliol, the first Balliol in England. Bernard had succeeded to the lordships of his uncle by 1130 × 1133; during The Anarchy, perhaps in 1135, he appears to have sworn homage to David I, King of the Scots, who had taken over much of northern England in the name of his niece, Matilda, and in the name of his son, Henry, heir and claimant to the earldom of Northumbria. During David's campaign in 1138, and before the Battle of the Standard, Bernard and Robert I de Brus were sent to try to negotiate with David; after failing, Balliol allegedly renounced his homage to King David. Although Balliol and his cause were successful in that battle, Bernard experienced defeat three years later fighting alongside King Stephen at the Battle of Lincoln (1141). In the years following Balliol continued to suffer as his lands were repeatedly attacked by the Scots, and the Scottish-backed William Comyn, who was installed as Bishop of Durham between 1141 and 1144.
Bernard appears to have founded the new settlement and Castle of Barnard in County Durham, named after him; despite being named after him, however, the earliest Norman ring work there appears to predate 1130. Bernard had at least four younger brothers, Radulf (Ralph), Enguerrand (Ingram), Hugh, and Joscelin, and by his wife Maud (Matilda) fathered four sons, Enguerrand (Ingram), Guy, Eustace and Bernard, and one daughter, Hawise; Enguerrand predeceased him, and he was succeeded by Guy."

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wiley funeral chapel, Jerome, by the Rev. Austin Rugger, pastor of tne Wendell Methodist church. Friends may call at the chapel from 1 p.m. Tuesday until time of services. Concluding rites will be held at the Wendell cemetery."

He was a wealthy nobleman and landowner with vast estates in the region around Vitry-le-Brûle near Châlons-sur-Marne. The chief source for his life and deeds is Gregory of Tours. In 532 or 533 he put forth a claim to royal descent, and asked for a share of the kingdom of Austrasia from Theuderic I. He had a band of sworn followers. Theuderic attempted to summon him to court in order to kill him, but after Munderic refused, a force was sent against him. The pretender took refuge with his loyal supporters in Vitry. The Austrasian army, however, lacked siege engines and were unable to seriously invest the place. Theuderic responded by sending a personal courtier of his, Arigisel, to negotiate for the rebels to come out, which they did. The dishonest ambassador had them cut down immediately."

[60855] David's obituary: "Ellsworth - David George Wilkinson, 62, died unexpectedly November 2, 2025, at his camp in Osborn, Maine. He was born March 4, 1963, to Rupert and Dorothy (Anderson) Wilkinson. David attended school in Ellsworth and spent most of his working years in the hardware industry, including his last place of employment, Viking Lumber of Hancock. He also loved working at Downeast Horizons with Chad, the rest of the staff, and all the clients. David loved camping, four-wheeling, and simply enjoying the great outdoors with family and friends. He was especially proud of the camp in Osborn, which he loved so much. David is survived by his beloved son, Jeremy David Wilkinson of Ellsworth; his loving partner, Cheri A. Woods of Otis; her daughter, Ashleigh Gerrish and her two daughters, Mackenzie and Kayleigh Bunker who lovingly called him 'Papa'. He is also survived by his siblings, Linda Wilson, Laura Winn, Evelyn Griffin, Paul 'Bubba' Wilkinson, Louise Handy; a special niece, Teresa Applebee; special nephew Adam Wilson, and many more extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Norma Applebee and Richard Tapley."
