Edward was Elder of the First Church of Boston (or, per NEHGR, April 2000, p. 226, of the Third or Old South Church of Boston); Freeman, 1637; married (2) Elizabeth Dildee or Dilloe (1607-88) - both are buried in King's Chapel burying ground, Boston; was a merchant. Baptised at Staverton, England 10 Sept 1609, Parish of St. John the Baptist, and was eighth child of Robert. His brother was Lord Chief Justice of England. Edward is mentioned in his father's will as the third son and is to receive 100 pounds when age 21. He immigrated with the Winthrop fleet aboard the Abigail with 220 passengers, embarking from Plymouth, England, and landing at Boston, Massachusetts, on 4 June 1635.
Carl Flegal (cflegal@msn.com) offered via email 18 Jun 1999 re: ancestry of Edward back to Charlemagne:
"The best reference that I have is Gary Boyd Roberts, "The New England Ancestry of H.R.H. The Princess of Wales," NEHGR, 136, 85-103, 1982: "The second royal descent, compiled by H. J. Young from F. N. MacNamara, Memorials of the Danvers Family (of Dauntsey & Culworth) (London, 1895), William F. Carter, The Quatremains of Oxfordshire (Oxford, 1936), volume 8 of the Moriarty manuscript collection and a few other sources, is from Hugh Capet, King of France, d. 996, through counts of Hainault, Roucy, Montdidier, and Clermont, and the Clare, Wake, Duston, Grey of Rotherfield, Breton, Quatremain, Bruley, Danvers, Langston and Giffard families." "These kinships are explored in "The Mowbray Connection," 7: 162-166, 174, 175." Weiss gives the ancestry of Adelaide de Clermont. James A. Rasmussen, "Edward Raynesford of Boston," NEHGR, 225-315, July, 1985 gives the ancestry through Alice Danvers, her father Sir William Danvers of Colthrop, her grandmother Joan Bruley. "Further particulars on Alice's ancestry may be found in Samuel Barfield, Thatchem, Berks, and its Manors (Oxford, 1901), edited by James Parker." "Details of these ancestries are found on the internet: "One ancestry of Joan Bruley is given at (www.my-ged.com/db/page/scokin/04297). This fits with my reference. I have not entered this ancestry into my computer and can not send you a GEDCOM myself. I'll be looking for it myself. "Paul Bailey McBride carries the ancestry of Thomas de Grey (-1295) on back with many references, (http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~pmcbride/rfc/gw37.htm#I8518) "Apparently many New England immigrants descend from Joan Bruley including Ann Mowbray Hutchinson. Joan Bruley's ancestry also appears to be correct at http://www.gendex.com/users/Enf_Bry/Enf_Bry/i372.htm#159565. "I have not checked any of the cited references yet."
Edward was a haberdasher in London in 1626, apprenticed to Owen Rowe. (- NEHGR 161:260) Edward's descent from King Henry III is detailed by Douglas Richardson in "Plantagenet Ancestry of Edward Rainsford (1609-1680) of Boston" in NEHGR 154:219-226.
Cf. http://www.family2remember.com/famtree/d690.htm and Edward's descent from royalty documented in "Plantagenet Ancestry: A Study in Colonial and Medieval Families," Douglas Richardson (published in 2004, distributed by NEHGS). Cf. "The Great Migration Begins," R. C. Anderson (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 1999), 3:1543-1548, and "Pioneers of Massachusetts - 1620-1650," Charles Henry Pope (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2013), p. 377.

[33880] His FindAGrave memorial offers: "Taken from 'The 100th Anniversary of Mt. Pleasant Lodge No. 8' - Written by C.W. Cruikshank (Copied at Mt. Pleasant library from Levi Smith file) - In his search for a location in the Black Hawk purchase, Presley Saunders was accompanied by his nephew, Mr. Levi Smith, who was the grandfather of the late Mrs. Henry Traut of this city. From a letter to Mr. Traut, under date of Dec. 17, 1943, from Dr. H.C. Smith, Glendale, Calif., a cousin of Mrs. Henry Traut and likewise a grandson of Levi Smith, I am pleased to submit the following: 'In 1833, he (Levi Smith) and Presley Saunders, his uncle, joined a wagon train at Springfield, Ill., for the West. For some reason, Presley Saunders and grandad (Levi) left the wagon train at Farmington, Ia., and started across country looking for land. Presley found the spring in the grove that is now Saunder's Park and staked out his claim. Granddad went on out north (Itbelieve) ?? and settled on some lane -- Scott's land as I remember it. The bleakness of the winter drove him from there down to the timber south of town where he could get shelter, lumber, and firewood.'"

[60873] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 6 November 2025: "Medway, Maine - Mike's three girls' hearts were shattered on Saturday, October 25, 2025, with the unexpected death of our father. Although we are devastated, we understand that our loss is Marlene's gain. Michael Rand Stanley was born in Medway, Maine, on April 25, 1948, in the middle of the pack to Carroll and Emma (Lee) Stanley's large family. Mike was born with an inherent gift to gab. He had the ability to talk to anyone and made friends no matter where he went. As his daughters, he shared his knowledge with us about your grandmothers, your ailments, and who has dirty windows. ('You can tell a lot about a person by looking at their yard or in their car.' - Mike) Mike was genuinely curious about the new people he met, and if he already knew you and asked how you were doing, he genuinely meant it. Mike was a graduate of Schenck High School, class of 1967, where he was voted 'Best Dressed'. This must have been a title he took great pride in, as he loved to boast that he never owned a pair of jeans. He loved to look nice no matter where he went and also was quick to compliment others who looked nice as well. If you wore pajama pants to Walmart, don't feel left out, we heard about you too. After graduating high school, Mike went to Presque Isle to attend NMVTI where he graduated in 1969 from the automotive service program. Our father could still tell you the full names and hometowns of the people he went to college with. Recently, it brought him great joy to attend his grandson's graduation from the same school. After graduating college, he went to work full-time at Great Northern Paper Company, where he remained until his retirement. He was well-known for keeping meticulous maintenance logs and for an insistence that equipment be kept clean. One of his favorite projects was working with the crew on Weldon Dam and he would say 'My official notes on the dam are right here.' as he pointed to his temple. Michael met Marlene ('Min' as he called her) on Halloween night, 1970. They were engaged within seven weeks and married six months later. At that time, he loved going to Osgood's and buying Marlene nice work clothes. Soon after marrying, they started their family. They were blessed with three baby girls within seven years. Mike was very proud of the families that his daughters created. We had many life lessons since he made sure to prepare us. When we were young, each year he took the girls, along with a compact mirror, to check the chimney for creosote 'in case you marry a drone who doesn't know how to do anything.' On occasion, he would need to remind his sons-in-law that he had raised his girls to be independent. He would tell them to watch out when they got 'Marlene's eyes.' Along with inheriting their mother's eyes, he never hesitated to let people know that his girls were bossy like their mother. Mike is survived by his three daughters, Randa, Leslie, and Karen; his sons-in-law, BJ, Mike and Brian; his grandchildren, McKenna, Kylie (Sean), Andrew (Sha-Lynn), Devon, Nathan and Breann; his great-grandsons, Waylon and Thomas; and many granddogs that he wanted away from the table. He is survived by his siblings, Honey (Bob), Sherry (Merle), Tom (Lillian), Joe (Laurie), Cindy (David), Greg (Karen); sisters-in-law, Linda (Clint) and Kathy. Uncle Mike was a favorite amongst his numerous nieces and nephews; he loved you all. Mike was predeceased by the love of his life, Marlene; parents, Carroll and Emma; brothers, Jeff, Fred, and Jimmy; and sister, Paulette. He was also predeceased by his mother and father-in-law, Lil and Nelson Levesque. Mike loved Marlene's family as his own. For the past few years he had a full social calendar. Dressed in his polished cowboy boots, ironed button-down shirt, with travel hairbrush in hand, he attended countless jams in the local area every week with his favorite dance partner, Susan Savage. We will greatly miss being able to call him for the know-how or advice we are looking for. His knowledge had no bounds. We cannot begin to count the number of times that his girls told their husbands to 'call Dad.'"
