George is "of Edworth," Bedfordshire, England. Of interest is a marriage in the parish register of Eyeworth [sic], Bedfordshire 30 Oct 1563 of Robert Ingersoll and Cecily Grante. An Ingersoll/Inkerstall research page on the Internet ( 12/97) is: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/1163/inger.htm One researcher states George was b. in Biggleswade, Bedfordshire. The surname Inkerstall probably means limper's byre. "A Genealogy of the Ingersoll Family in America, 1629-1925," Lillian Drake Avery (NY: The Grafton Press, 1926), p. ix: "The name 'Inge' is Scandinavian and is first identified as the name of a celebrated Scandinavian Chieftan or Lord by the name of 'Ingebar' who came into England with the invading Danish folk and settled in Middlesex and adjoining counties. This 'Ingebar' bequeathed his name as a surname to a large number of English families, as for instance such families as Inglis, Ingram, Ingolsby, Ingelow, Ingoldew, Ingerson, Ingelside, Inge, and Ingersoll. It may be noted here that Inge, son of Harold, King of Norway, lived in the twenfth century, (Patronymica Brittannica-Lower). The name Ingersoll is partly of Scandinavian and partly of French origin. The name is not a corruption of Inkersall. [45145] "Elizabethville Echo, 18 November 1954," p. 1: "Harvey A. Schoffstall of Sunbury, died on Sunday at the age of 76 years. A native of Gratz, Mr. Schoffstall was a son of the late Henry W. and Caroline (Ritzman) Schoffstall, and had resided in Sunbury most of his life. Mr. Schoffstall had been an employee of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company forty years and had operated a grocery store in Sunbury since his retirement in 1938. His wife, the former Mary E. Good, preceded him in death. Survivors are a foster daughter, Mrs. Leona Herbst of Sunbury, a granddaughter, and one sister, Mrs. Mame V. Gregg of Sunbury." Harvey and Mary had a son, Robert Schoffstall, who dies in 1912 at five days after birth.
