He is the son of Virginia and the late Ernest Torrey of Deblois. He worked in the woods with his father in his younger years, then a lumber mill, and in 1971 became a 10-wheeler and equipment operator with the state of Maine Department of Transportation. After 40 years of service with the state, he retired and went to work for Maine Wild Blueberry Co. in Machias. He was a quiet, but strong man, always hardworking, generous and compassionate. His family always came first and his grandchildren were very special to him. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Catherine Torrey, his daughter, Susan and husband, Herb Smith, of Hancock, and their two children, Kaylee and Mason Smith; his mother, Virginia Torrey of Deblois, two brothers, Allan Torrey and Jerry Torrey; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends."
