"Descendants of Thomas Boylston, Jr." at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/b/a/t/Margaret-R-Bates offers: "From 'The Boydstun-Boydston Family' by Gladys Domonoske, p. 228:
"Mary Frances Boydstun crossed the plains to the Willamette Valley with her parents in 1853, being then only 14 years old. She married Cornelius Gooding White when she was just past 16 years old. He crossed the plains to Oregon in 1852 in an emigrant train. They were married in Linn County, Oregon in 1855 and settled first in Umatilla County, Oregon, but later sold their place and bought 200 acres near Crescent City on the Smith River in California, which was stocked with cattle and hogs.
"A heavy rain caused the river to flood and their log cabin was flooded knee deep so they went to the new barn for shelter and were there for 3 days and nights without food. Their cows and hogs were swept away into the sea, but an Indian came in a canoe and rescued them, throwing a paddle to Cornelius to grab so he could pull the canoe to the barn for them to get into it.
"They lived at Smith River until 1862 and then moved back to Umatilla County, Oregon, where in 1870 they sold their ranch and took a squatter's claim on Butter Creek, about 15 miles from Pilot Rock, Oregon. A neighbor made a trip to the Palouse River country in Washington and came back with fine reports of the advantages there, so the White family made the trip also, to see for themselves. They liked so much they stayed and were among the pioneer families of Colfax, Washington. Cornelius White died in 1891 and Mary Frances died September 17, 1922."

[50996] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 28 July 2022": "Bucksport - Ashley Eugene Coombs, 91, most treasured husband of Barbara A. Coombs, crossed over July 6, 2022, at home in the arms of his wife. He was born on March 2, 1931, in Bucksport, the son of Basil J. and Jennie E. (Eastman) Coombs. He was a member of the last class of students to attend the Duck Cove School on Route 46, now known as 'The Little Yellow School.' A member of the Class of 1949 at Bucksport High School, following graduation Ashley enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was stationed at F. E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyo., earning the rank of sergeant and serving as a communications instructor. While in the service, he saved enough money to buy a brand new, coral, hardtop Chevy convertible. Through the years, Ashley faithfully kept in contact with the many friends he had made during that time. He was a proud veteran and became an avid reader focusing on books pertaining to the history of World War II. After he was discharged, Ashley returned to Maine and worked three years for Central Maine Power before becoming employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph (Ma Bell) for nearly 30 years. He retired in 1984, just in time to enjoy becoming a grandfather to Billy and begin planning many trips throughout the United States, accompanied by Barbara and their most favorite cat. Later on, a winter home in Ocala, Fla., was purchased where they enjoyed new experiences. Ashley was a longtime member of the Rising Sun Lodge, No. 71 of Orland, the Maine Academy of Country Music and the Duck Cove Community Club. For many years he and Barbara devoted their time and energy to making repairs and planning fundraisers to maintain and preserve that historic building, 'The Little Yellow School'. He was predeceased by brothers Dick and Russ; stepson, Allen Cyr; sister-in-law, Edie Coombs; great friends, Trygve Hoel, Russell Doyle and Donnie Barker; and all of his favorite kitties. Ashley will be dearly missed by Barbara, his wife of nearly 40 years; daughter, Karen Lander and her partner, Deb Davis, and stepson Bret H. Cyr and his daughters, all of Florida; his grandson, William Ashley Lander, and fiancée, Melanie Rines, his great-granddaughter, Raegan (Josie) Lander, and his great-grandson, Ryan William Lander, all of New Hampshire; cousins, Bill and Christine Gilfillan of Hampden; a very special nephew, who he considered a son, Lamont Coombs Jr. and wife, Maureen; a special sister-in-law, Emmie Coombs, and her daughter, Erna Pontillo, of Arizona; nieces, nephews and a brother, Lamont Coombs Sr. Ashley considered Cleo Redman and Helga Swanson to be his 'almost daughters' and enjoyed close friendships with Don and Joyce Unterseher, Tony and Jill Pimentel, Jim MacDonald, Jason Staples, Henry Violette and many, many others. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Laura Bridgman for her exception care of this wonderful man."

[11813] "George was the illegitimate son of William, Earl of Douglas by his first cousin, the Countess of Angus and Mar. He inherited his mother's title and possessions in 1389 making him the 1st Earl of Angus." - see web site http://www.douglashistory.com/history/red/red_home.htm and refer to "The Complete Peerage," vol. IV, pp. 430-432 and vol. I, p.154-5. Cf. http://www.electricscotland.com/webclans/families/angus_douglases.htm which reports: "ROBERT DE UMFRAVILLE, the son and successor of Earl Gilbert, was appointed Joint Guardian of Scotland by Edward II. in 1308, and was forfeited by King Robert Bruce for his adherence to the English interests. The earldom was then bestowed upon Sir John Stewart, of Bonkil, who was descended from the second son of Alexander, High Steward of Scotland. On the death of Thomas, third Earl of Angus of the Stewart family, in 1377, without issue, the title devolved on his sister, Lady Margaret. She resigned it in 1389, and King Robert II. then granted the earldom of Angus, with the lordships of Abernethy, in Perthshire, and of Bonkil, in Berwickshire, to George Douglas, her illegitimate son by William, the first Earl of Douglas, her brother-in-law. GEORGE DOUGLAS, first Earl of Angus of the Douglas family, married the second daughter of Robert IlI., was taken prisoner at the Battle of Homildon, in 1402, and died the same year in England of the plague. There was nothing worthy of special notice in the career of his two immediate successors. On the death of James, the third Earl, without issue, the title and estates devolved upon . . . GEORGE DOUGLAS, second son of the second Earl, who filled several important offices, and commanded the royal forces in the contest with the Earl of Douglas, whose lands and lordship of Douglas he obtained on the forfeiture of that formidable and turbulent noble. The Earl, who had a high military reputation, held the office of Lieutenant-General of the Kingdom after the death of James II. He died in 1462. He performed a brilliant exploit during the Wars of the Roses, in bringing off the French garrison from Alnwick under the eyes of the Yorkists. His son, ARCHIBALD DOUGLAS, fifth Earl of Angus, became the most powerful nobleman in the kingdom, and was commonly called the Great Earl. He was only fourteen years of age when he succeeded his father." In 2007 http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/SCOTTISH%20NOBILITY.htm offers: "George Douglas, illegitimate son of William Douglas 1st Earl of Douglas & his mistress Margaret Stewart Ctss of Angus ([1378 or before]-1402). He was created Earl of Angus. - m (contract 24 May 1397) as her first husband, Lady Mary Stewart, daughter of Robert III King of Scotland & his wife Annabel Drummond (-after 1458, bur Strathblane)."
