She was born Dec. 6, 1917, in Waldoboro, the daughter of Paul and Lucy May (Miller) Boissonneault, and was educated in Waldoboro and Bucksport schools. Edith was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family and took good care of them. After her family, her greatest love was cooking, and many people will remember her wonderful pies, cakes, cookies, and donuts. She worked for many years at the Pentagoet Inn, Castine, and in many private homes. She also worked at the Castine Hospital as a cook and nurse's aide and ran Wardwell's Market, Castine, with her husband. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rebekkahs and formerly attended the Castine Grange. Edith was greatly loved by her family and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by two daughters, Jerry Bartok and her husband, William, of Penobscot, and Nancy Sanborn of Machias; a brother, Lewis Boissonneault of Waldoboro; a sister-in-law, Martha Durant and her husband, Walter, of Penobscot; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Wardwell of Penobscot; seven grandchildren, Robin Vogell of Castine, Lisa Haas of Penobscot, Randy Wardwell of Penobscot, Terry Sanborn of Machias, Martin Sanborn of Machias, John Canady of Manhattan, Kan., and Michele Severy of Barre, Vt.; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two nephews; and several cousins. Edith was predeceased by the love of her life and husband of 61 years, Elmer A. Wardwell; her son, Lawrence 'Bucky' Wardwell; a son-in-law, Herbert Sanborn; her grandson, Michael Sanborn; and her brother, Roger Boissonneault. Edith's daughters want to extend their gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at the Penobscot Nursing Home for the sincere love and care they provided Edith for the final two years of her life."
