[30812] See http://www.thepeerage.com. Find A Grave Memorial 77266174 offers: "A dedicated servant to Elizabeth I, Walter Devereux was named earl of Essex in 1572 and installed as knight of the garter in the same year. Having been appointed Marshall of Ireland in 1574, Devereux died shortly thereafter, either of dysentery or poison. He was succeeded by his son Robert (1566-1601), the second earl of Essex and a significant favorite of the queen until 1601, when he attempted to raise a rebellion and was executed."

[2062] http://www.art-science.com/Ken/Genealogy/PD/ch48_Gascony.html offers: "Loup died in 774 & the duchy devolved onto Loup II. He did not last long. He was either killed by Charlemagne in 778 or locked up then & only killed thirteen years later. Either way, it was a poor lookout for Loup but not surprising, in view of what he had done to Charlemagne, which we will examine below. Loup had married Numabela of Cantabria in about 770, bringing more Visigoth blood into the Delaforce line. She was the daughter of Fruela of Cantabria, (?705 - ?765), who's son Roderic is also a Delaforce." For the history of the Duchy of Gascony and its Dukes, see http://www.friesian.com/flanders.htm#gascony. Cf. http://fmg.ac/Projects/MedLands/GASCONY.htm.

[12619] Doris m. 20 Oct 1937 in Los Angeles, CA Elmer Cliff Bryon and r. North Hollywood, CA. Doris' obituary from the "Leader-Telegram," Eau Claire, WI, 12 Jan 2011: "Doris Marie Bryan was born February 4, 1913, in Dike, Iowa, the third child of Jerome and Amy (Dietrick) Heichel. Her life through high school was spent mostly in and around Waterloo, but following graduation she and her mother moved west, settling in Glendale, California, where she worked at various domestic jobs and as a waitress. In July of 1937 Doris was introduced to E. Clifford Bryan at the home of mutual friends and they were married in October the same year. Their first child, Douglas, died shortly after birth on December 19, 1940. In 1943, Cliff was drafted into the United States Army. While he was serving overseas, Doris gave birth to their daughter, Barbara. The family was completed with birth of son Thomas a few years after World War II. Doris' married life came to an end when Clifford died in 1977. In 1979, Doris decided that in order to stay close to her children and grandchildren she would divide her time between Santa Cruz, California and Stone Lake, Wisconsin. She continued this annual migration for 20 years, until settling full-time in Wisconsin in 2001. For almost eight years she enjoyed the community of the Heritage Apartment complex in Eau Claire, and for the past three years lived at Oak Gardens Assisted Living facility in Altoona. Doris was, among other things, a great cook and a great storyteller. She also thoroughly enjoyed fishing and playing cards. She was a wonderful mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and added a welcome spark of life to many generations of family and friends. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Stone Lake, Wisconsin and more recently of St. John's Lutheran Church of Eau Claire. It was with her death that she rang in the New Year, dying on January 1, 2011 at the age of 97. Doris was the last of her generation in the family and was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two brothers; and her infant son. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Larry) McNeill; and son, Thomas (Sara) Bryan. She is also survived by grandsons, Bryan and Ross; granddaughters, Erica and Nicole; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews."
