[60257] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 5 May 2020: "Hermon ME. and Holiday FL., Florida - Peter Edward Caristi, 72, died peacefully on April 30, 2020, in Florida, after a long battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was born on October 15, 1947, in Quincy, Massachusetts, the son of Maurice Henry and Grace (Kelland) Caristi. Peter graduated from Quincy High School in 1965. After high school, he joined the Air Force, which he went on to serve for 25 years, retiring as a Master Sergeant. While serving his country, Peter was stationed in several bases around the world, and he enjoyed sharing these stories with people. While in the military, he went on to further his education and received a Bachelor's Degree in University Studies from the University of Maine, and an Associate Degree in Applied Sciences at Eastern Maine Technical College where he graduated top of his class. After Peter's retirement from the Air Force in 1991, he later became employed by the Bangor School Department, which he retired from in June 2013. Peter took pride in his work and showed that in everything he did. In addition, he worked multiple jobs at the Bangor Auditorium/Bangor State Fair; Bangor Waterfront Concerts; Holiday Inn; and the Maine Principals Association. In fact, it was when he was hired at the Bangor State Fair in July of 1990 where he met the love of his life, Rosa Kelley Demmons, whom he married and became an outstanding dad to her three kids in addition to his own two from his first marriage. Peter was also passionate about volunteering and volunteered his time freely. Together he and Rosa volunteered for the Tour de Cure for Diabetes for 5 years and served on the committee. They also were volunteers for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure for 7 years and worked on the committee as well. Peter was a member of the MAINEiacs; a lifetime member of the VFW, the Air Force Sergeants Association, and American Legion. He served as former Maine Chapter President and Senior Advisor of AFSA. He also served on his local HOA Board. He was a member of St. Ignatius of Antioch Catholic Church and most recently enjoyed online services at Deeper Worship Church out of Maine. In addition to his parents, Peter was predeceased by his previous wife, Maureen Caristi; and their son, Daniel; his sister and brother in law, Miriam and William Jones, II; his brother and sister-in-law, Gerald (Jerry) and Judy Caristi. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Rosa Kelley Caristi; his children, Travis and Michelle Demmons of Windham ME; Anthony and Sarah Caristi of Edmond, Oklahoma; Kellie Corey of Bangor ME; Timothy Rexrode of Bangor ME; Joseph Caristi and his fiance Jen Kent of Wheatridge, Colorado; and Christina and Zachary Levesque of Bangor ME. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren: Megan Joy, Jayda Smith, Lexus Berry, Arion Caristi, Nicholas Berry, Aiden Rexrode, Liliana Smith, Sophia Caristi, Terrianne Demmons, Xander Rexrode, and Jacob Demmons. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Thomas Sullivan of Pollock Pines, CA; Brother and Sisters-in-law, George and Teresa Kelley of Hermon, ME; David and Sarah Kelley of Charleston, SC; and Michael and Sharon Kelley of Hudson, ME; several nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends. Due to COVID-19, a service and full military burial will be held at a later date."
