She was born June 8, 1909 at Cambridge, the oldest daughter of Ivan Warren Ham and Nora (Adams) Ham. She attended grammar school in Cambridge, graduated from N.H. Fay High School in Dexter, and received a lifetime teaching certificate from Farmington Normal School. She taught school in Athens, Harmony and Hartland for 21 years. She was a former member of the Rebekahs and Grange and held offices in both orders. She was a member of the Hartland Chapter No. 189, Order of the Eastern Star, serving as organist for over 30 years. Helen was an active member of Grace Linn Memorial United Methodist Church and also belonged to the Outlook Club and Scott-Webb Hospital Auxiliary. In 1996 she received the outstanding citizenship award, and the field of education award in 1986. She had also served the town as a ballot clerk. She is survived by her children, Edwin and wife, Hazel, Elwin and wife, Christie, Elmer and wife, Beatrice, all of Hartland, Eleanor Lawrence of Athens, Ethelyn and husband, Philip Bowman, Esther and husband, Darrell Butler, all of St. Albans; a brother, E. Wesley Ham of Hartland; sisters Hazel Bean Small of Vienna, and E. Arvene and husband, Maynard Yakemore of W. Simsbury, Conn.; sister-in-law, Arline Ham of Hartland; and a brother-in-law, Cliff Sprague of Hartland, 18 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and friends. Her lifelong lesson to others was to willingly give unselfishly to family, friends and community. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Grace Linn Memorial United Methodist Church, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 9, with Pastors Brenda Haskell and Norman Finnemore of ficiating. Spring burial will be in in Pine Grove Cemetery, Hartland."

A graduate of Mechanicsburg High School, he was a member of Bible Baptist Church, Shiremanstown. Surviving are one son, the Rev. Tom S. of Mechanicsburg; one daughter, Kimberly K. Travis of Memphis, Tenn.; three brothers, Dr. Robert B., Milton R. and Vance L., all of Mechanicsburg; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews."
