"The Call [Schuylkill Haven, PA], 10 December 1964," p. 1: "Charles H. (Pappy) Bubeck, one of Sch. Haven's eldest residents, is celebrating his 96th birthday today. 'Pappy', as he is best known throughout Sch. Haven, is a spry and active oldster. He is a faithful member of Christ Lutheran Church and its Sunday School. Since his confirmation in this congregation 80 years ago, he attended Sunday School regularly, missing only because of illness. Many years ago he taught a Sunday Schrol class. His favorite hobby is reading and several times a week he visits the local library to search its shelves for the latest book. Since the Sch. Haven Recreation Dept. opened a meeting room for senior citizens, 'Pappy' enjoys visiting there and talking about the 'good old days' with his many friends. In September 'Pappy' fell and suffered several broken ribs. He was confined to the hospital for several days but before too long he had fully recovered. The son of John E. and Mary Eiler Bubeck, he was born and raised in Sch. Haven. When a youth he drove team on the Schuylkill Canal and has many interesting experiences to tell about the days of the canal. Money he earned driving team was used to purchase school books for 'Pappy' attended a school above Killian's Dam, now Willow Lake. Later he worked at the car-shops, then on the Reading Railroad and later in life opened a grocery store on Dock St. 'Pappy' was married to the former Annetta Williams of Dauberville, who died in 1927. One of 12 children,'Pappy' is the last of his family, his seven brothers and four sisters being deceased. His four children, Harry, Mattie, Mary and Paul, are also deceased. A grandson, Paul, recently died in Arizona. 'Pappy' lives with another grandson, Charles, St. Peter St. He also has three great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren."

Beers & Co., p. 561: "Charles H. Bubeck, son of John E. and Mary Bubeck, a well known business man at Schuylkill Haven, was born in that borough Dec. 10, 1868. He attended the public schools in North Manheim township and afterwards, for two years, was employed on the Schuylkill canal, and for two years more was located at the Schuylkill Haven landing. Mr. Bubeck was then employed by the Reading Railway Company in its repair department for one year, following which he was a brakeman on the Mine Hill railroad for nine years. He then left the railroad for a time and went to Philadelphia, entering the employ of the Plagens boatyard people, but remained only a short time, and after coming back to Schuylkill Haven returned to the Reading Railway Company. . . he was engaged in several capacities, and then he went into the car shops, where he continued until June, 1913. At that time he bought the stock of L. M. Reichert, an established grocer, at No. 164 Dock street, and has built up a very satisfactory grocery and green goods business. Charles H. Bubeck was married to Anetta L. Williams, a daughter of Charles Williams, who now resides with Mr. and Mrs. Bubeck. Formerly he was a substantial farmer in Berks county. Four children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. Bubeck : Harry, who married Millie Schwilk, and has two sons, Charles A. and Paul; and Mattie, Paul and Mary, all three deceased. Mr. Bubeck is a member of Christ Lutheran Church. Fraternally he is identified with the O. U. A. M. and with the Red Men, both at Schuylkill Haven."

She had also served as a local registrar of vital statistics. Mrs. Haas was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, former choir member and Sunday school teacher and member of the church's ladies guild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Haas, on April 1, 1989; a sister, Sadie Umholtz; and an infant brother. Surviving are two sons, Donald E. Haas and Harry A. Haas Jr., both of RD1 Klingerstown; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren."

[13091] "New England Ancestors" Vol.5, No. 3 (summer 2004), p. 10-11: "Dinah, the daughter of Richard and Naomi Sylvester, was born in Plymouth Colony in 1642. At the age of nineteen, she falsely accused a neighbor of witchcraft, swearing she'd seen her transform into a bear. This event occurred thirty years before the Salem witchcraft hysteria and Plymouth officials were more thoughtful in their handling of the charge. Dinah's allegation is the only one on record in Plymouth and during her interrogation by the court, she admitted she'd made the whole thing up and was fined 5 pounds in court costs. The false accusation cost her a fiance who broke their engagement because of friendship with the family of the wrongly accused neighbor. Dinah sued him for damages in court and won 20 pounds - but apparently never regained his heart. Plymouth records indicate she never married and lingering rancor over the breech of promise led to other disputes between the two families. Dinah was later named in a fornication allegation and in 1669 was back in court again, this time charging another man with the paternity of her child. - Sherry Sylvester Ramsey"

[21322] Winifred, age 33, was living with her sister Abbie (age 54) in the 1910 census. Neil Ungerleider (http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/u/n/g/Neil-Ungerleider-MA) calls him Winfred Bartlett Wardwell, b. 5 June 1876, d. 12 Sept 1933 in Penobscot, ME, buried 14 Sept 1933 in Leach-Wardwell Cemetery, Penobscot - "Occupation: Farm Laborer in 1900, Farmer in 1906, 1910 & 1920, Janitor, Postal Service Driver in 1917 Note: Single, living in Penobscot at 1910, 1920 and 1930 Census. "Ellsworth American" September 20, 1933, Winfred Wardwell, a lifelong resident of Penobscot, died on Tuesday, September 12, quite suddenly. He was a valued member of the Highland Grange, North Penobscot, and had served faithfully as the Janitor of the Town Hall, and of Clark High School since its establishement. The funeral was held at The Methodist Church on Thursday, September 14, with Rev. Violet Bagly officiating He was the youngest of the family of the late Jeremiah and Julia Wardwell and is survived by a sister, Mrs. S. J. Treworgy of Surry and several nieces and nephews. World War I Draft Registration Card says he was short and of stout build with blue eyes and grey hair." "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 16 Sepptember 1933, p. 6: "Penobscot - Friends in large numbers attended the funeral services of the much beloved citizen Winfred Wardwell, 57, known to everyone as 'Win', held Thursday. Rev. Violet Bagley officiated and interment was in the family cemetery. Floral tributes were sent in great profusion including a large set-piece from the Highland Grange of which he was a most valued member. Mr. Wardwell was born and always lived in this town and was the youngest of the family of Jeremiah and Juliah Wardwell, to whom he was a most devoted son. He had been Janitor of the Clark high school since it was founded and for the past 16 years had the care of the town hall. He had substituted on R. F. D. routes, in the post office and stores. Long a familiar figure on the streets, he will be much missed - kindly, courteous and obliging, his passing will be a distinct loss to the community which he served well and faithfully in any capacity to which he was called, He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Saul Treworgy of Surry, several nieces and nephews."
