[36296] Find A Grave Memorial# 101990763 offers: "Baron Chandos of Sudeley, Lieutenant of the Tower of London, High Sheriff of Wiltshire. Created a peer on April 8, 1554 at St James' Palace. In his function as Lieutenant of the Tower he had in his custody Thomas Wyatt, Lady Jane Grey, and the youthful Lady Elizabeth. In addition to Brydges, his name is variously spelled Brugge and Bruges." John is from the unverified family tree by Carolyn Bonnot in Ancestry.com in 2014 which states John is son of Giles de Bridges and Isabel Baynham. Ancestry.com offers: "Bridges Name Meaning - English: variant of Bridge. The -s generally represents the genitive case, but may occasionally be a plural. In some cases this name denoted someone from the Flemish city of Bruges (Brugge), meaning bridges, which had extensive trading links with England in the Middle Ages."

[6227] His daughter, Julia, m. Marcus Vipsanius Agrippa (b. 63 B.C., d. 12 B.C.), the great military leader and builder who helped Augustus come to power. http://writersalmanac.org/episodes/20150923 offers: he was "born Gaius Octavius Thurinus in Rome in the year 63 B.C. The great-nephew of Julius Caesar, Augustus was named as the childless statesman's heir upon his assassination. Despite Roman custom, Augustus dropped his middle and last name altogether to emphasize his new name, Caesar, probably hoping it would help legitimize his power grab. It did. The money he inherited helped, too. With the Senate in disarray, Augustus joined forces with two other leaders to form a three-headed military dictatorship. When that inevitably fell apart, Augustus remained in power. The Senate eventually decided to formalize his rule, changing the government's entire structure from a republican state to that of an empire. It was the beginning of an era that would last nearly 1,500 years, until the fall of Constantinople. Augustus was widely respected during his reign, in part because of good works campaigns such as starting the first police and firefighting services and distributing funds to soldiers and veterans, in part because of his cultivated modesty, melting down statues of himself and restoring temples of Roman deities, and in part because of his creation of an imperial guard that acted as his personal intimidation team. Augustus was not actually called Augustus until years into his reign; the term means "the revered one" and was given to him by the Senate. Roman emperors that followed him were also granted the term, and adopted the name "Caesar" too. Today, Caesar has come to be synonymous with emperor or ruler, but it began as simply a surname, probably from the Latin expression meaning "hairy." The word Augustus has found its way into modern-day language too; the sixth month of the Roman calendar was named in honor of the emperor in English, we call it August.

[51404] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine], 30 June 2015": "Ellsworth - Joan Willey Tucker joined her family in heaven Sunday morning, June 28, 2015, while daughters Persis and Stacy held her hands until Joans last breath on Earth. Joan was born on Easter morning, March 27, 1932, in Milbridge to the late Lawrence C. Willey Sr. and Persis Morrison Willey. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, James F. and Nettie Colson Morrison, after Joans mother passed away unexpectedly. Her 65-year love story with her husband, L. Lionell Tucker, started when he drove his car up on the sidewalk and asked her out on a date one evening after she worked at Kennedy Pharmacy. They got engaged shortly after Joan graduated from Milbridge High School and were married on Sept. 28, 1950. They moved to Northeast Harbor in the mid-1950s to raise their family and to work for summer residents including Mrs. Flagler Harris followed by Henry F. and Penelope Harris. When asked what brought her joy, she always answered 'my family,' including children Persis Tucker Jordan and husband William 'Bill' Jordan of Machias, Russell Tucker and wife, Alice, Ann Tucker of Trenton and their youngest daughter, Stacy Helen Tucker-Stanley, and husband Anthony 'Tony' Stanley Jr. of greater Portland. They were blessed with six grandchildren, Shawn, Britt and Heather, Willey Jordan of Brewer, special granddaughter Nettie-Kate Jordan of Machias, predeceased by grandson Joshua Sprague, plus five great-grandchildren. Her siblings include James 'Jimmy' Willey and wife Mary of Bellingham, Mass., Jeanne Willey of Sullivan, and predeceased by twin brothers Alonzo and Lawrence Willey. Joan was known for her wholesome cooking and the Union Church suppers always sold out when her special Aunt Helen Morrison Dodge and she cooked. They cleaned summer cottages and served formal dinners together for Mrs. Vincent Astor, Mrs. John Pierrepont and the Halls."
