He succeeded to the title of 3rd Earl of Cassillis [S., 1509] in August 1527. He was educated at St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland. At Paris, France, he studied under the celebrated George Buchanan. On 6 February 1540/41 he had a charter of the Fief of Cassillis. On 24 November 1542 at Solway Moss he was taken prisoner by the English. He became a Protestant, and went over to the English Party. In February 1545 he was released. He held the office of Extraordinary Lord of Session [Scotland] between 1546 and 1558. He fought in the Battle of Pinkie on 10 September 1547, where the Scots were defeated. He held the office of High Treasurer [Scotland] in 1554."

"The Courier [Waterloo, Iowa], 23 September 1958," p. 2: "Funeral services for Frederick (Lee) Morgan, 62. who had been a patient at Isolation Hospital for the past six years, are pending for Friday at the Parrott and Wood Home. Mr. Morgan died 9:50 a. m. Monday at Isolation Hospital of Parkinson's disease. He was born May 16, 1896 at Delhi, the son of Frederick and Amy Jane Himmel Morgan. He was a carpenter and a member of Local 1835 of the carpenter's union. He married Florence Lister in 1915 in Savannah, Ill. She preceded him in death. He then married Ethel Floyd in 1923 in Waterloo. They were later divorced. He is survived by five sons, Claude A. Morgan, 1720 Locke Ave.; Gale L. Morgan, 136 Rainbow Dr.; Eldon J. Morgan, 3107 Falls Ave.; Richard E. Morgan, 1714 Easton St. and Wayne D. Morgan, of Costa Mesa, Calif. Mr. Morgan is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Donald A. Bixby, 512 West Donald St. and Mrs. Robert Gravatt, of Marion, Ill. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. S. W. Andrews, 727 Magnolia St.; Mrs. J. W. Holtzman, 2916 Rainbow Dr.; and Mrs. John Meir, of Eagle Center. A brother, George Morgan, 401 Harwood St., also survives, as do 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one daughter and one grandson."
