[48041] "The Ellsworth American, 4 November 2020": "Mabel Ida Leach Bowden, age 86, died peacefully on Nov. 1, 2020, at the hospital in Blue Hill, following an injury that occurred at her home in Penobscot the preceding week. She was born April 4, 1934, at Castine Community Hospital to Arthur and Mary (Cunningham) Leach. She grew up on a dairy farm in Penobscot, and enjoyed helping her father on the farm, especially with the horses and hay wagon. Mabel graduated from Clark High School in 1953. Her first job was at the Adams Corp. in Ellsworth. She then worked at the St. Regis Paper Co. in Bucksport for six years. A homemaker and mother for the next 18 years, she went back to work at Campion International in Bucksport for the next 20 years until her retirement. A lifelong Penobscot resident, she enjoyed participating in local school, church and community activities. Mabel was a loving wife to her late husband, Basil, for nearly 50 years until his death in the spring of 2010. She is survived by her two dear children, eight wonderful grandchildren and a delightful great-granddaughter. Sons: Basil and his children Abby, Henry, Spencer, Alice, Susan and Thomas; David and his children Nicole and Josh. A great-granddaughter, Claire, was born to Nicole and her husband, Chris, in August of this year. She leaves a sister, Eileen Webber, whose close relationship she treasured throughout her life. She also leaves nephews, nieces, and several cousins, as well as her close friend Marlene, whose love and support she cherished. In her final years she enjoyed spending time with Ed Flannery, a dear and special man."
