Compton's Encyclopedia (via America Online, 1995):
George VI (born 1895, ruled 1936-52). When Edward VIII gave up the throne in
December 1936, his brother Albert, duke of York, replaced him and took the
name George VI. It was during his reign that Great Britain struggled through
to victory in World War II, India and Pakistan won their independence, and
the British Empire evolved into the Commonwealth of Nations.
As Prince Albert he had served in the Royal Navy and the Royal Naval Air
Force during World War I. On April 26, 1923, he married Lady Elizabeth Angela
Marguerite Bowes-Lyon. They had two children, Elizabeth (later Queen
Elizabeth II) and Margaret (afterward countess of Snowdon).
Although his wife, Elizabeth, desperately opposed his becoming king
because of his poor health and the fact that he stammered badly, he was the
next heir to the throne. He was duly crowned on May 12, 1937.
Throughout World War II the king and queen remained with their people.
Their presence in London during the air raids and their messages broadcast
during those years of anxiety and strain did much to hearten and inspire the
people of Britain and the Commonwealth.
From 1948 George's health deteriorated. He died on Feb. 6, 1952, a few
months after undergoing surgery for lung cancer. His daughter Elizabeth (see
Elizabeth II) took the throne. George's widow, Elizabeth, lived on for many
years as queen mother and one of the most popular members of the royal
family. Her 85th birthday in 1985 was a time of national celebration.

[57746] "The Ellsworth American [Ellsworth, Maine]," 22 October 2024: "Surry - Carolyn 'Cookie' Ida Patten died peacefully on Oct. 19, 2024, at a local assisted living facility. Cookie was born to John Marden and Caroline (Royal) Dunbar in Trenton, Maine, on Feb. 9, 1938. Cookie was a graduate of Ellsworth High School. She married her shining prince James 'Jim' Patten on July 16, 1955, and settled in Bayside to begin raising a family. They subsequently moved to the Bridge Hill neighborhood where they raised their four children. Originally a homemaker, Cookie took up weaving, selling her creations at local craft fairs throughout the northeast while camping with her family. Eventually, she was commissioned by an interior designer in the state of Washington to exclusively create products for their interior design projects. In 1982, Cookie joined Jim at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as a sales agent and chartered financial consultant, working as 'Mr. Met' and 'Mrs. Met' throughout the Hancock County community until their retirement in 1997."

[40552] Find A Grave Memorial 157701736 indicates his parents and offers: "James Reid was educated at Aberdeen Grammar School and the Aberdeen University where he qualified as a Doctor of Medicine in 1871. He practised in Edinburgh before moving to London to set up a practice, seeing patients for a decade before being appointed a resident physician to Queen Victoria, whom he served until her death, then Edward VII throughout the whole of his reign and finally George V. Rickard, of Blain; Mrs. Joseph Kistler, of Harrisburg; Mrs. Frank P. Lightner and Mrs. Benjamin F. Kell, of Loysville; Mrs. Annie Showvaker, of Harrisburg, and Benjamin F. Rickard of Lewistown.
