[6894] Roger was Lord Clifford, Sheriff of Cumberland, Governor of Carlisle Castle in 1377. Ref.: "Ancestral Roots..." (Balt., 1992), 26-32 & 202-32 (which gives his wife as Maud de Beauchamp, dau. of Thomas de Beauchamp and Katherine de Mortimer). http://www.tudorplace.com.ar/CLIFFORD.htm offers: "summoned to Parliament as a Baron between 1357-88. He married lady Maud De Beauchamp daughter of the Earl of Warwick. Roger was active against the Scots and was one of a commission to correct truce-breakers and decide border disputes in 1367. In 1372 he was commissioner of Array against the Scots and in 1374 he was called on to settle a dispute over possession of Jedburgh Forest between Henry, lord Percy and William, Earl of Douglas. He was made Sheriff of Cumberland and Governor of Carlisle in 1377 and between 1380 and 1385 he was warden of the East and West Marches five times. In 1388 he accompanied Richard Fitzalan, Earl of Arundel, Admiral of the fleet on a victorious naval expedition against France and Castile. He died on 13th Jul 1389 at home in one of his northern castles and was probably buried at Shap Abbey."
[51834] Elizabeth is said to be daughter of Thomas White Doyle Jr. (1793-1849) & Betsy Webster Bagley (1799-1881; m. in 1814 in Liberty, Waldo Co., ME).

[29807] "The Bangor Daily News [Bangor, Maine]," 18 January 1945, p. 5: "Brooksville, Jan. 17 - The town of Brooksville was saddened by the news of the death of one of its oldest former residents, Mrs. M. Ursula Perkins, 86. Mrs. Perkins, widow of William Perkins, had been confined to her bed for the last six years having suffered from a stroke which had rendered her left side entirely helpless. She bore her infirmity without complaint and with matchless courage. Her whole life has been one of devotion to duty and loyalty to family and friends. She had ten children, six of whom survive her, they are: Mrs. Vesta Hawes of Brooksville, Mrs. Bernice Bowden of Penobecot, Ray Perkins of Augusta, Mrs. Hope Featherstone of Cleveland, Ohio, Anna Perkins of Passaic, N. J., and Seymour Perkins of Bristol, Conn. Surviving also are a brother, Bentley Grindle of Brooksville, nineteen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. She has also left many nieces, a nephew, and hosts of friends. She will be truly missed by all who knew her."
