He was born on August 26, 1927, to Stuart and Hazel (Dean) Brackett in Belfast, Maine. Upon graduation from high school, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard. In 1952, he married Betty Jones and they subsequently relocated to an old family home in Springfield, Maine. Here Stuart was best known for his years as a dedicated bus driver and custodian at the elementary school, and later at Lee Academy. His most treasured leisure time was spent at his camp which he and Betty built on Dobsis lake. Stuart is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty (Jones) Brackett of Bangor; daughter, Lynn Irish and her husband Randy; son, Richard Brackett and his wife Cheryl; grandchildren, Justin Irish, Jillian Rourke, Galen Brackett, and Amanda Brackett; 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Margaret Merrithew, and brothers, George Brackett and Fred Brackett."

"News-Journal [Mansfield, Ohio], 6 May 1952," p. 8: "Crushed to death under an overturned tractor, the body of Mrs. Carl Mutchler, 52, widowed mother of nine children, was found yesterday afternoon in a field near her home southwest of Loudonville. Arccording to Sheriff M. F. Rickenbrod, who was called to the scene at 2:30 p.m. Mrs. Mutchler, whose husband died two years ago, had gone to the field early in the morning. After she failed to come in for the noon meal a daughter called to the woman's brother-in-law who lived across the field. He looked out and saw the overturned tractor and shortly afterwards discovered the body. Dr. H. M. Gunn, Ashland county coroner, gave a verdict of accidental death from a crushed chest. Mrs. Mutchler had been dead four or five hours when found, the coroner said. Mrs. Mutchler was born in Ashland county, Feb. 18, 1900, and lived in Loudonville all her life. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic church in Loudonville, the church Guild, and the Hanover Grange. She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Lucille Paullin, Marshallville; Mrs. Florence Rodriguez, Perrysville; Mrs. Carl Hans, Mansfield; Mrs. Clara Conrad, Loudonville; Miss Marian Mutchler, at home; four sons, Lawrence, Loudonville; Ralph, Ashland; and Kenneth and Robert, both at home; three sisters, Mrs. Ethel Bowman, Loudonville; Mrs, Clara Heffelfinger, Loudonville; Mrs. Florence Dalton, Shelby; six brothers, Henry Peters and Ray Priers, both of Loudonville; Urband, Gallon; Floyd, Mansfield; Herbert, Canton; and Carl, Columbus; and 14 grandchildren."
